Identity

(c) 2010 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

Everything that you have thought solid and real is dissolving.  Most obviously, that's been the stock market, real estate, and jobs... We're being called to be more in integrity with our Essential Self, who we truly are, and ways of creating money that aren't in alignment with that are disintegrating before our eyes.

What is also falling away is aspects of your identity.  If you've categorized yourself at a certain income level, a certain career path, politics or religion, it's either being called into question or being removed from your reality.

This is *very* uncomfortable and disorienting!

The interesting thing, to me, is that this is happening across the board, including those of us who've been on an alternative, non-traditional, or 'spiritual path'.

It reminds me of when I was divorced and lost the identity as wife, full-time mother, home-owner, and gained the identity as 'single parent', 'renter', etc.  It was very painful!

We go through identity shifts all the time, from different ages and levels of school to employment and relationship labels.  This time it feels on a deeper, more fundamental level.

How do you navigate this level with grace and ease?  Good question!  And I don't think it's realistic to expect yourself to do so effortlessly the entire time.  Discomfort is discomfort, and grouchiness is an appropriate reaction, sometimes.  Loss of identity and/or things feels very real, and grief is a natural response.

Yet what you can do through it all is stay in touch with the (not so) little part of your Consciousness that's outside of the drama.  Even if you can't feel it when you're steeped in the storyline, Know that it's there.  It's the light at the end of the tunnel, and it's Who You Truly Are.  It's where you're going to or Who You are Becoming, depending on your perspective.

It's possible to have both awarenesses simultaneously.  The little self that is bulldozing through the concrete images of reality and the Larger Self that is enjoying the ride on the bulldozer!

This week all you have to do is stay in touch with Consciousness.  As you're moving through life with all it's emotions and story, just remember, know, feel, or trust the "little" Light.  Eventually alignment will return and, to quote the Beatles, "everything will be alright".
