Threads of Reality

Threads of Reality  ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

If you look at your life from an expanded perspective, you’ll see that it’s an interweaving of storylines. I don’t feel that any of these are set in stone, they’re more liquid threads of possibilities that we can engage in. I’m currently engaging with several of these and it’s fascinating to look back to see how they’ve floated into my reality at different points.

A year or so ago, I was musing about my brother and his wife who live in Queens, and what would happen to them if one of them died. Her only child lives in Taiwan. In this kind of daydream I was in I realized they clearly would need help. And I knew that I’d go out to help them, although it meant confronting fears and unknowns (I cannot drive freeways, I know nothing about Queens).

It was one of those random kind of thoughts, I don’t know what triggered it. My family isn’t super close. I have two other brothers, one lives in Pennsylvania - I visited them once in 1999. They have three adult children and numerous grandchildren.

My other brother lives near me, we only see each other for funerals and weddings, it seems. He’s married, and he has four adult children and a couple of grandchildren.

My assumption is whatever comes up, for those two guys, the adult children will be able to step into handle things.

But I worried about my little brother, or at least I did at that moment. And our main connection is playing Words With Friends. He was the one who drove down from New York every long weekend between April 2011 when my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when my caregiving journey began in earnest (although in a way, it had begun years before) and January 2013 when she passed. They’d given me much needed breaks.  So I felt they were the only ones who’d really pitched in and helped.

And then I forgot about it.

At the beginning of August my little brother abruptly stopped playing Words With Friends. His last move was about August 5th, and our last little side chat on WWF was late July when he complained about the heat in NY and an earache. So I felt something was up. But sometimes they go on trips, and maybe this was one of those times. I posted a note on his Facebook timeline, “Hej, Bro - haven’t seen you on line in a couple days. Has the heat done you in? Hope your ear is feeling better! <3”

A week passed and I sent an email. And a day later heard back from my sister in law, “Matt has had a stroke on the back of his head. They are moving him to rehab next week”.

That was August 16th. And looking at my note on his timeline, it was written on August 11th, which was about the day he went into the hospital.

A series of emails followed to determine if they needed help and even if I’d be welcome to help or if I’d just be in the way. Then the weekend before Labor Day it got affirmed, so I booked a ticket for Sept. 2nd and have been here since.

There are other threads, with friends, clients, other relatives that are weaving into the reality that is unfolding here.

Like my two year cycle with my mother (which was really a 7 year cycle and really a lifetime), this current situation is coming into reality with no clear script of the future.

I’m here, “boots on the ground”, offering assistance and, as I can see, healing in a myriad of ways I could not possibly have imagined.

Now, he’s not dying, so I’m not midwifing him out of body, as I did with my mother. You could say I am midwifing someone into a new phase of their life.

I have no idea what each day will bring, even if there are prewritten scripts, I’ll just show up and improvise.

Regardless of what threads in your life are weaving together, you’re in charge of how you respond or react to them. You can interrupt longstanding patterns by responding differently. And ultimately you’re at choice on whether to engage in any of them.

We All Get Daily "Do-Overs" (and Why there are no ethics as Consciousness)

We All Get Daily "Do-Overs" (and Why there are no ethics as Consciousness) ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

I'm working with several people on reconciling their pasts. They are knee deep in shame and struggle over things they've done. The main focus is to shine a light on their side of the street, so they can move forward with no regrets.

Now, as a mystic and Consciousness worker, I have a different perspective on time and space and what happens in our storylines. Yet even though I know we each create our reality as greater Consciousness, and that to Consciousness there is no good or bad, I still struggle with things I haven't forgiven myself for.

A realization I had today is that we have these different themes running through our lives, different story threads, different recurring energy patterns. When we engage unconsciously, these patterns seem to run us. We do things we may later consider unconscionable when when shine the light of Consciousness on it all.

It's not useful to berate ourselves or want to punish ourselves to past misdeeds. It just solidifies the pattern we want to unravel. Sometimes there are definite actions we can take to help us release the past. But sometimes we might have already rectified the situations and we haven't recognized it.

Mind you, Consciousness is infinitely neutral about all of this. When our bodies die, what remains is our greater Consciousness, and there's none of this leftover residual energy that we've made up stories about from a personality level interpretation.

We don't go to hell, we aren't trapped in purgatory, our immortal souls are not destroyed by the misdeeds committed while in form. It's all just absorbed into Consciousness, like falling into an ocean of Love.

It's hard to comprehend while in form, because this is a world where things are black and white, good and bad, right and wrong. So we will interpret the afterlife with these same assumptions.

When we're entangled in form, these ethics are all very real. Outside of form, they don't exist.

That doesn't mean that it's ok to run around killing people or ripping them off while you're in body. Not because it's bad, but because you're engaging in unconscious behavior patterns. When you're operating as Consciousness, you have no interest in playing that way in form.

So how do we reconcile the actions of the past, when we were operating as our body personality egoic patterns, from this new awareness as Consciousness?

It's simple (as everything as Consciousness is simple). Each day we get a "Daily Do-Over". We get to be different. Every day is a new reality. Kind of like the movie "Groundhog Day", except the story moves onward.

We get to be new every morning. We don't have to behave the way we used to, we don't have to react to things the way we used to. And even if we are engaging with situations and people from our pasts, we don't have to be the way that's projected at us (because there are all sorts of stories out there as well.

As Consciousness, we're inventing this moment to moment. If past situations arise in the present, they're opportunities to be different. Each time you are different with past patterns, the energy dissipates until it's gone completely.

Each time we respond as Consciousness, we embody our greater self more into form, we're more empowered, clear and confident. And our lives reorganize is miraculous ways.

Try this for the next week and see what happens!

Playing Hooky From Life

Playing Hooky From Life ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
The Truant's Log, R Hedley 1899'

When I was five, we moved to England. We hadn't found a school for me when my brothers went off to their new institutions in late August. I remember pulling the curtains in the living room in the day time so the truant officers couldn't see me playing hooky.

Now, there probably weren't truant officers in England, in the same way there were ones in the U.S. And I probably was only out of school for maybe a week, before I was enrolled in a girl's private school. I was five, and starting kindergarten probably wasn't as important as getting my brothers into appropriate middle and high schools.

Looking back, that whole experience was a huge shift in reality. I wasn't playing hooky, I was transitioning from one universe to another one. From suburban Maryland to the city of London. From running through backyards barefoot, to school uniforms and lace up shoes.

When I was fifteen, I lived in Canada. The teachers went on strike for 3 months in the middle of my grade 10. I wasn't exactly playing hooky during that time, as school wasn't happening. But I learned there were options and choices.

It was another huge shift in reality. It disrupted my path. If that hadn't happened, I would have gone in an obedient pattern through high school and college. Instead, after 2 1/2 years of high school, I went to college early. After 2 semesters of college, I went back to London at 18 and auditioned for drama school. I spent a year in drama school before being culled, moved back to the States... eventually ending up in a Mystery School in Seattle which set me on my true life path.

The point of this isn't my education. The point is about playing hooky from life, taking a break from expectations of what we're supposed to do so that we can reflect on what we want to do. So that we can make choices and take actions as greater Consciousness rather than just responding to what we "should" be doing.

These shoulds, these expectations, these supposed tos, are so deeply ingrained, they're invisible to us. We can't see how we're running off patterns that were installed generations back.

Sometimes it seems like life creates a pattern interrupt, moving you to a different country and culture, or distrupting a school year, setting into motion a series of events that puts you on a different life and career path than you thought possible.

And you can create your own breaks, whether it's a day a week or longer. To stop doing your regular routine and what's expected of you. To get your head clear to know what your heart is calling you to do. How your Essence wants to be expressed in this world. What you as Consciousness wants to experience instead.

We are scared to do this because it feels like our whole life may collapse, and we'll lose parts that are important to us. Yet when we do this as Consciousness, it can result in a gentle rearranging of reality, or finding your life falls into place more perfectly that you can imagine.

My experience of embodying Consciousness is that it's a lot less painful than forcing yourself to conform so that your parents can understand your choices, for example.

Consciousness is much more benevolent than society. Take a day off and discover how munificent this Universe really is.

Power Games

Power Games ©2015 Joan Newcomb

I've been playing with energy with a renewed focus, taking old techniques and 'upgrading' them.  The results are noticeable.  I've been filled with a sense of expansiveness and well-being, and prosperity and abundance is flowing into my lift in unexpected ways.

Whenever you increase light, it illuminates hidden things. Issues rise to the surface, in the process of being cleared out.

One showed up recently in the form of another person, who began having some extreme reactions to  me.  It was crazy making, until I stepped back and brought Consciousness to the situation.  I scanned all my immediate relationships, my husband, sons, friends, clients, my co-host, my business mentors, and those I mentor. All are going well. Except this one individual.

First I tried acting as if nothing was wrong, just in case I was misreading the energy.  That revealed that something was, indeed, amiss.  I talked about it with my mentors, I talked about it with the Universe (you could call this praying).  All of this brought the issue to light, but wasn't clearing it.  I really couldn't figure out how this was going to resolve peacefully.

The great thing about bringing anything to Consciousness is that you don't have to know how.  It unfolds more perfectly than you could imagine.

As I'm writing, I'm realizing that there's a difference between becoming aware of something, and bringing Consciousness into it.  Shining light on something illuminates it, in doing so can make it more extreme (as it's out in the open).  Bringing Consciousness, transforms or disperses it.

What has revealed and is sorting out was distortions and drama and dysfunctional patterns, we each grew up with or encountered in our adult lives,  but not games that I play or choose to engage with any more.  I stayed in integrity,  I stayed aligned, and I continue bring Consciousness into the situation, we're actually becoming friends!

Consciousness does that.  It reveals our similarities as well as our differences.

The other situation that's arisen was an issue that wasn't mine on the surface, but one that I've contributed to.  Rather than power games with individuals, it's power games with corporations.  Corporations are great projections of power, and bring up the illusion of powerlessness in ourselves - they're so big, we're so small.  Bringing Consciousness to this is revealing a simple solution.  It's still not my action to take, but one I provide support for.  As I write, I feel there's still some truths to be revealed.  It's still in the process of unfolding.

So the energies I've been playing with are ~ evolutionary gold and green, waterfall abundance and ionized air, and miracles.  I've been playing with directionals.  You can bring these energies into the top of your head and into your body and energy space.  You can also generate these energies from within, bringing them up and out.  And, you can manifest these energies from within.  Chakras are reference points, vortexes and portals from outside the hologram.  You can instantly transport, manifest or replicate with them.

And I'm discovering that Consciousness doesn't exactly have light.  It's a bigger magnification.  It's more clarify of focus.  It's not as glaring as shining a spotlight on something, which then means something is light or dark, in the spotlight or hidden.  Consciousness brings clarity, neutrality, and allows patterns to dissipate or transform.

Consciousness doesn't really come from anywhere, although initially I thought it was outside-in.  Again with the directionals.  Outside-in, inside-out, or - just is.  It's in the core of every atom and molecule.  It's Sentience.

You can play with this within yourself, and with feelings that arise.  You will notice that not every emotion is really yours, and any story told about it isn't true.  Consciousness disperses them like the warmth of the sun (rather than sunlight) clears clouds.

Play with any or all of this, this week, and see what happens!
