What Are Emotions? A 5D Perspective ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
One of my clients was sharing about her Consciousness shift and it brought into perspective my multileveled awareness of emotions.
At a basic level, emotions are simply a body’s language to communicate to You, Consciousness. It fundamentally expresses itself the same way, and for the same reasons, as it did when it was an infant. Your body cries when it’s tired, hungry, uncomfortable, in pain, frightened, etc. That doesn’t mean you’re crying all the time as an adult, but it’s crying out in some way for your attention.
When we’re paying attention to our body, feeding it right, letting it sleep when it wants to, tending to it’s needs, it’s basically happy. But if we’re off in the future with great potential creations, our body feels abandoned, thinks we’re leaving permanently, it is sure we’re dying. When our attention is on the past, it is a fascinating exploration to Consciousness but the body feels mired in it’s immovability of regret, resentment, mourning, and loss.
That’s at the basic level. The next level is when you take into consideration everyone else’s emotions. As Consciousness we’re all naturally empathic, telepathic, kinesthetic, and/or clairvoyant. So we’ll tune into what others are feeling and think it’s ours. Or even if we can discern it’s someone else’s, it can be hard to detach from it. Other people’s emotions seem to magnify our own.
Old school solutions to these problems were to detach from our own feelings, discipline ourselves not to feel them or ignore them. Many religious practices included denying the body food or comfort as a way to become more spiritual. Which kind of misses the point of being here. What you find out when you die is that you were spirit all along, and your reason for incarnating was to experience being in a physical body.
Being present to the body by being in the present moment, is a more effective way to ‘be more spiritual’. When you’re in present time, that is, your attention is withdrawn from the past or the future, you’re able to fully occupy the body, and then it’s really happy. The heaviness of the past is gone, the uncertainty of the future has disappeared, it knows it’s alive and being taken care of.
We think we don’t like being in present time because it’s too limiting. Our mind, which is our GPS, is programmed to always be going somewhere (and checking past maps for how to get there). But as Consciousness, the present moment is infinitely expansive. True transformation is initiated in the Now.
What I’m finding with my own Consciousness shift, is that my old ways of being in the Now have me tuned into others, and a lot of the time I’m swimming through quite a lot of emotional frequencies. My old ways of detaching seem uncompassionate and incongruent with the increasing interconnectedness that is a result of our collective Evolution that is occurring.
When I play with my Consciousness techniques, everything reorganizes into a completely different experience. It’s like going from old style animation to CGI. I feel like I effortlessly refocus into being more fully embodied and yet extremely clear and alert (without having to spend hours 'cleaning energy', 'getting unstuck', 'removing blocks', etc.).
And it's not about getting to 5D and staying there. As Consciousness we move between levels without judgment.
What about others in our hologram? What about all the emotions being flung about out there?
This morning I woke extremely early and was instantly aware of a lot of uncomfortable feelings. I felt a lot of grief and physical discomfort. My first thought was that it was me, it's been a tough week, physically and emotionally. So I stewed in it for awhile, until I became aware that I was feeling others emotions. So I looked at my clock, to figure out time zones, since I have loved ones 3,000 miles away on either side of the globe from me. A little while later it occurred to me that it was actually the people in this apartment I'm in, which should have been obvious but at 3:25am I assumed they were asleep.
So then I used a Consciousness Technique for centering in the hologram, and discovered that all the feelings stopped being in my body and seemed to be in a ball in the center of the room. (This doesn't really mean anything because as Consciousness there is no time or space, so locations like up, down, in, and out, don't hold true anymore). And when I created a focal point on that ball, it initially seemed to be less intense. Which gave me the opportunity to start writing this post.
Halfway through, the other inhabitants needed my assistance, and I was able to respond with clarity, amusement, and even affection. When I came back to writing, I noticed the shift of focus yet again.
Now, it's all a creation of Consciousness, and whatever you're experiencing is your creation as Consciousness. Even if others are extras in your movie, they're also expressions of Consciousness moving through your soundstage, so to speak.
I'm not spending time resisting other's emotions, or trying to get them out of my space. Consciousness is the highest level of non-resistance, of being so open that negative or denser energies pass right through.
I'm also not trying to change, fix or improve others or the situation, unless out of curiosity something spontaneously occurs to me to play with.
It's a completely different way of navigating reality, beyond our mind's GPS which wants to take us deeper into the density because that's all that it knows. And in so doing, to feel more authentic and expansive joy, passion, love, than you ever thought possible.

How to Handle All This Darkness
How to Handle All This Darkness ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
Right now we're in the dark side of the moon, we're having a new moon eclipse tomorrow. It's the 3rd of three eclipses that started a month ago. People have been going huge growth spaces. I'm not an astrologer, but I see astrology as an energetic component of the hologram, that is the world we're creating as Consciousness. It's like energy weather. We can use it to our advantage, like wind in our sails.
So eclipses open doors, create sudden new changes, beginnings and endings. But they also 'eclipse things', which sometimes means shining light hidden things but also means not everything is fully revealed. Change can be initiated that doesn't become fully clear for a month to six months.
So we're going through dark times, some of us are fumbling around, many of us are frustrated that there isn't enough light yet. Especially those of us who are light bringers and healers, who want to illuminate, enlighten, clear, and restore to wholeness.
I have to confess, I'm still a little afraid of the dark. But that's because I sense denser energies as I move through it. In my last house, which was built in 1905, I always felt energy just outside the bedroom door (which made it real fun to go to the bathroom at night).
In my current house, which was built in 1956, the family that lived in it 60+ years has had at least two members that have passed. So I'll feel the presence of one in our hallway (most likely the one who passed most recently). I've just learned to walk through it without resisting.
In the old days, I'd do an exorcism. In recent times, I've just been navigating around it. But it occurs to me to do a different kind of energy work, a kind of house blessing, which brings it into present time. It gently releases energies absorbed from the past and assists them to their next level of evolution.

And that so ties in with what is going on in the world today. Darkness is coming out of the woodwork, as increasing light of Consciousness is coming into physical form. It feels more intense as it is being seen more clearly.
It feels like historical patterns, that no longer fit in our current state of evolution. It's bubbling up from our unconscious, and playing out by unconscious people.
When I am in the present moment, the past ceases to exist, it goes away.
You can do this for yourself, very simply, by bringing yourself into Present Time. Bring your focus into the present moment. Imagine bring it back from all other places in that you've had your attention on, throughout time and space. What you may notice is sensations within you, and sounds around you, become more acute or clear as you're fully present to notice them.
You can also do this by creating a focal point of Consciousness within you, wherever you place as your center. This is you bringing your full light into the present moment, which can effortlessly release all non-presences within you.
Do this whenever you think of it, and notice how it changes your perception. It will have a ripple effect out into the rest of your reality as well.
Try this for the next seven days and see what happens!

Creating Moments of Joy
Creating Moments of Joy ©2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
When I was caring for my mother who had Alzheimer's, I got this book called "Creating Moments of Joy". It specifically focuses on being in the present moment with people with dementia and celebrating whatever happiness you can have, right here and now.
It was an enormous relief not to fight what was happening, but to dance with her memory loss and the resulting behavior as the filters broken down. We savored the moments, sitting in the sunshine and going for drives in the countryside. And monthly field trips to the Kreeger museum that has a special program for people with memory loss and their caregivers. And, a couple times, before it became impossible, an evening at the theatre.
Those moments are highlights over the rest of that time, which was nearly unbearable, it was so painful. Yet when I look back, those are the times I remember the most, more than the others.
It seems to me life is a series of moments of joy, amongst times of challenges.
When we're little, we flow from one moment to the next. We find joy in dandelions and butterflies. We cry when we scrape our knee. We laugh at silly things.
As we get older we accumulate more 'scraped knees', and carry the experiences with us. Rather than picture books of happy times, we're galleries of war photos.
You can't move forward, with your evolution as Consciousness, with such density.
In stressful times, you need moments of joy. It's not being in denial about the awful things going on. It's coming up for air once in a while.
The worst is coming out of the woodwork right now because we're in a collective shift to a higher vibration of consciousness. It's in the process of being cleared, as it's exposed to more light it cannot fail to disintegrate.
It's painful to watch. It's reopening wounds, revisiting past trauma. Which is allowing us to heal our scar tissue. We can get through this by creating moments of joy.
Moments of joy can also redirect you out of misery. It doesn't take very long to shift longstanding patterns and introduces new experiences of reality. Abraham Hicks says it only takes 17 seconds. You catch your habitual thoughts and redirect them.
When I manifested my now husband, l did this. I realized I'd been driving around thinking of all the terrible relationships I'd had. Which was creating an energetic inventory for the next relationship. So I deliberately focused on the qualities I wanted instead, and he showed up.
By creating joyful moments, you can created more of them. You shift your attention to what you want (without resisting what you don't want), you bring it into existence.
There will always be things to resist. There will always be pain and unpleasantness. This planet is a dichotomy of beauty and ugliness, a playground of density and effort. We're here to create, to bring our unique vibrations, to feel the feelings of the physical realm.
What moments of joy can you create today? Be on the lookout for opportunities. As you notice them, more possibilities show up. You'll gradually rise up out of the current vibratory level to one of more wellbeing. And this has a ripple effect. It assists with the collective evolution. As more of us create moments of joy, the more joyous the world will become.

On The 7th Day He Rested
On the7th Day He Rested ©2012 Joan M. Newcomb
Years ago I worked for a Church and one of the classes taught at the time was Psychic View of the Bible (it was *that* kind of Church). I remember being told that only 10% of the Bible is accurate, because of all of the times it's been edited over the years.
In order to glean the Truth, you have to read it with Your own intuition. One of the things I noticed was the story of creation, and how God took a break on the 7th day. Really? Omnipotent Consciousness, needing a break?
I realized it was a message to Consciousness in physical form that our bodies need breaks. Our bodies need rest. Consciousness never rests, Awareness is always Observing.
But our physical form needs a nap once in a while.
When we start on a spiritual path or a path of seeking higher Conscious- ness, we want to ignore the needs of the body. Highly spiritual gurus and lamas and sages over the centuries have become celibate, gone on fasts, hung out in the wilderness (although most of that story was symbolic).
It's kind of missing the point. We *are* Spirit, we're *already* spiritual. We don't need to go out there to "get it", we don't need to starve or deprive the body to achieve enlightenment.
The idea of not giving the body rest, or food, or affection, is based on the concept that it is a distraction or something to be disciplined.
Would you not give your child rest, or food, or affection? You'd be an abusive parent!
We are Consciousness in physical form. Not 'the power and presence of God'. Not 'an aspect of God'. We ARE Consciousness.
As Consciousness we are wise, all loving, eternally amused, infinitely compassionate. We already know everything, we just can't/don't access all Our information because these bodies can only download so much before our circuits fry!
Spiritual practices like meditation, yoga, can help raise our vibration to allow more energy/information in, but it still has limitations.
And that's why it needs naps. And food. And love.
Our bodies only know what they've experience from the moment they are born. Our bodies are fearful of the future because they exist in the present moment. The future represents death to the body because it doesn't exist out there. It can freak out when You make so many changes in your life it doesn't have previous data to go on in order to function. The future is a higher vibratory level that the body hasn't accelerated to yet.
The past can be both comforting and depressing to the body, because it's been there, but it's not there now. The past is a lower vibratory level, the body has already grown beyond it, and to try to match the past or stay in it is invalidating. Like keeping your 7 year old in kindergarten.
If you care for your body, it will take You where you want to go on your spiritual journey through life. Most people's struggle with advancement is because their bodies are holding them back, just like a tired or hungry two year old is going to slow you down when traveling!
You can take responsibility for your body just as a loving parent would care for a child. You can acknowledge it when it works hard, give it healthy food, put it to bed at a reasonable time, love it and nurture it in the ways you may not have received love and nurturing from your biological parents.
Addictions are a slightly different story. It's when the body's needs are distorted and the addict personality is off and running the show. Would you let your drunk or high teenager drive?
At the core of any addiction is the body's desire for comfort, to be pain free. That first drink feels great. That 10th one feels horrible.
You are *not* caring for your body by letting it eat gallons of ice cream and zone out in front of the TV. It doesn't feel good after a night like that.
It takes you further away from what you are really seeking.
The body can resist and be angry when you start to take charge after letting it run the show in that way. There are spiritual programs for dealing with any addiction. The 12 steps were actually based on 6 steps from a mystical group (extra steps were added so there weren't any loop holes for addicts to sneak through)!
Addiction thinks it is God, so it blocks Consciousness (although Conscious- ness is always there, just stepped back and waiting). At such times, it takes a supportive group of people who've 'been there' to offer experience, strength and hope in detoxing the body, recovering the personality, regaining spiritual awareness.
In the present moment, where your body exists, everything is very, very well. You have everything you need. Oxygen, daylight, nature. It is the place where You, Consciousness, can manifest in physical form to experience the ecstatic wonder of physical sensation. It's where you can initiate change, creation of experiences.
That's all you need to do this week, is be in present time, respond to your body when it expresses it's needs, and enjoy the sunshine!
Try this for 7 days and see what happens!

Adventures In Dementia and Effort
Adventures In Dementia and Effort ©2011 Joan M. Newcomb
I've talked a lot about how everything anyone has felt was solid and real is now disintegrating. Solid investments like the stock market and real estate really aren't any more. People who have identified with, such as their jobs or their marriages find themselves laid off or divorced. People with strong spiritual beliefs are finding them called into question, and energetically aware people are finding their techniques aren't working any more.
This is forcing everyone to be in a new place, expand and evolve.
I've been visiting my mother in DC and I had felt something big would happen while I was here. I had assumed it would be something created by Mother Nature (as other places have had earthquakes and tsunamis) and, while there were tornado watches here, we're quite a ways from Alabama. We did have a couple of political earthquakes - the most recent was the killing of Usama Bin Laden.
What I couldn't have imagined was that my 85 year old mother would be diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Wow. She has more in common with Ronald Reagan than just being Republican!
Her personality is disintergrating. Her memory is evaporating. She's still mostly here, but not all there.
For someone who survived most of her adult life being in denial, what a way to go. And at this moment it's pretty painless for her. She doesn't remember the diagnosis, and I've given up reminding her. Why bother, when she can't do anything about it?
For me, it's a wonderful spiritual exercise. If I'm in the present moment with her, I can dance with where she's at. I can phrase things in a way she'll accept, and I drop expectations of her being any other way.
It feels similar to having a toddler, because with a toddler you just give your life over to caring for them until they're old enough to go to school (yeah, it doesn't really stop there but you do have a bit more space for yourself by then)! With dementia, it's in reverse as they will grow less capable rather than more.
But at three they are somewhat capable, but not as capable as *they* think they are. So you let them make pretend cookies on a toy range, or scribble in crayon on a check register. You step in to do the real thing for them.
At 85 and still early-onset, you can trust her to microwave dinner or boil water for coffee, but she's not up to steaming her vegetables or broiling salmon any more. She writes all her checks in her check register, but she doesn't carry an accurate balance, and sometimes repeats entries on the following page. And makes actual double payments or misses payments. So it's time to step in.
Unlike most toddlers, who you can trust to be toilet trained and ready to go to preschool by a certain age, you don't know the progression (or regression, really) of Alzheimers.
So you don't predict, you stay in the moment, you make plans for the future, and remain realistic and open.
What a great way to approach life in general during these tumultuous times! Is the economy turning around? When will a new career or a new relationship happen? When will things start to get better?
In the present moment, it already is better. It is exactly as it is. And a wonderful opportunity to open, to embrace, and to grow.
How can you come into acceptance if something extraordinarily shitty or painful is happening to you? Scream, cry, yell, dive into and through it. It's a storm front passing through. It's labor pains - a contraction. Let yourself be pushed into new Awareness. You are being birthed into the new Consciousness.
Your identity needs is expanding so rapidly, your aura has stretch marks! Breath, relax, suck on ice chips and blow raspberries with your lips.
Life is an Adventure in Density and Effort (and for me, currently, Dementia and Alzheimer's). We created this for the fun of it. Sometimes muddy, sweaty, painful fun. But as Expanded Beings we are bigger than any problem, we are more than our current knowing.
So, for the next week, let your self Be Here Now, Love What Is, Chop Wood, Carry Water, Do The Next Indicated Thing.
And see how your life transforms!

It's All Consciousness
(c) 2010 Joan Newcomb
While at the grocery store, I was musing about (my interpretation) of Robert Scheinfeld's model of this all being a hologram and not being real. It's like a full immersion video game, all created by Your Expanded Self. When I step into that awareness, I feel like I'm on a movie set and indeed, nothing seems real.
Then I was thinking about Findhorn's belief that *everything* is real. They even name their cooking utensils and refrigerators! I remember when I first became aware of the concept - that trees were aware, that everything had devas - and feeling self conscious to get undressed by the windows (I lived in a rural area and had no curtains), because there were trees there!
As I left the store and walked to my car, I wondered how to reconcile the two. What is it? Is everything real or is nothing real? I had these thoughts as I passed under a tree next to where I was parked. The tree said:
"It's all Consciousness."
I was flooded with the revelation that - *everything* is Consciousness. The misinterpretation by people visiting Findhorn is that cooking utensils and fridges have personalities. It's all Consciousness. The misinterpretation by people listening to Scheinfeld's model is that nothing outside is alive.
Everything is alive with Consciousness. Consciousness creates everything. Everything reflects consciousness. It's all real in the very moment you're experiencing it. And it's all a creation of You, Consciousness.
The illusions are - time and space and distance and separation and story.
Recall those moments when you felt fully Present, perhaps after meditation, or exercise, or falling in love, or an inspirational workshop. Did you feel fully Alive? Did everything seem brighter and greener and more vivid? Did you *feel* happy, joyous, and free? Time seemed to stand still, or last forever.
Now recall those moments when you felt disconnected or distracted. Perhaps involved in some life drama, caught up in work or family issues, or news events. See the filter that affected your perception? Things felt numb or contracted, looked dull and grey? Didn't you feel glum or down or cranky? Time seemed agonizingly slow or endless.
Which is real?
Which reality do you want?
Everything is Consciousness, You are Consciousness. You can connect to that awareness at any time, in any place.
Your assignment this week (should you choose it): Shift your awareness out of the story or the personality at any given moment. Stuck in traffic? Say 'hi' to Consciousness and see how things instantly become different. In a boring meeting? Notice the aliveness in all the molecules that have come together to form the room and the people in it. Awake in the middle of the night wrestling with inner gremlins? Tune into the Silence beyond your thoughts.
And notice what happens! Email me the results!

Going Home And Staying Present
(c) 2010 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
I am visiting family back East this week (& next). It's always interesting, even leading up to the trip. The last few weeks I felt as if I were standing off stage, amidst the hanging velvet drapes & also the hanging scenery.
To me this represented dense & heavy old patterns. Not just memories, but also concepts and ideas from the past. Things I know I've outgrown, but are coming up from deeper layers in order to be cleared.
Have you ever noticed going home and the house ad all the furniture seem smaller? It's not just because you're an adult, but also because you've expanded energetically.
The challenge is going home but staying in the present moment, retaining the changes that have occurred since living there. How do you keep your current energy level amongst old energy?
It takes staying conscious and also staying amused! What ever you can do to stay conscious - perhaps it's silently reminding yourself that you are Spirit in a body, or you are Consciousness expressing itself through personality and form. To me it feels like a shift from the lower part of my awareness to a higher place.
When you're in that higher place, you automatically become amused. You get amused at yourself as you start to revert to your old ways. You're amused at all the memories that come up when you see relatives or places from your childhood. You can be amused that part of you wants your mom to make your favorite foods while at the same time wants to run screaming from the house.
Taking breaks is also helpful, even if it's an extended trip to the bathroom or a walk around the block. When you're by yourself, it's easier to remember that you're X number of years old, you're a highly paid executive, or you've been divorced for nearly ten years. Anything to bring you into present time helps.
This time I decided to do something I've ever done before: rent a car. The reason it had never occurred to me during prior visits is that when I left home, I didn't drive. I've been having to remind myself that it's 30 years later and I have *plenty* of experience behind the wheel! I can handle freeways and even parallel park!
Going home but staying present is very validating. It gives you the opportunity to validate the enormous amount of growth you've experienced. You can more easily recognize and acknowledge the things you overcame to be who you are today.
If you don't have any plans to return home any time soon, you can still use these same suggestions to be present, conscious and amused in your regular day-to-day life!
Try this for a week and see what happens!

Respond-ability
©2009 Joan M. Newcomb
Responsibility is the ability to respond. We've distorted it to 'taking responsibility', which usually means for something outside ourselves. Taking responsibility feels really heavy, usually, because it involves taking on energy that isn't our own.
Some people take so much responsibilty for the world around them that they neglect taking care of themselves. And other people resist taking responsibility so much that they neglect taking care of themselves, as well. Funny how that happens.
Imagine what it would be like if all you had to do is respond. Respond to whatever is in front of you right now. Respond to what is.
Not react - reacting is bouncing off someone else's actions or emotions. Reacting usually is an unconscious response. Most of us go through life reacting. We feel like things are happening to us.
When you're in responsive mode, you're at choice. Something occurs, and you can choose how to respond to it. Someone behaves a certain way in front of you, and you can respond. Or not.
When you practice respond-ability, it starts to become very clear what is your stuff and what isn't. Hmm. Am I doing something for someone else that they could do for themselves? That's taking responsibility outside yourself. It drains your energy and disempowers the other person.
Byron Katie has an audio about 'all that's required of me' - 'all that's required of me is to sit in this chair right now'. She says 'my job is to sit comfortably now'... that's a perfect example of being in responsive mode.
Doing the next indicated thing is also a great example of practicing respond-ability. All you need to do is the next indicated thing, all you need to do is take the next step in front of you.
Suddenly you're in the present moment. The burdens of the past have dropped away, the fears of the future are gone. Things become very clear and very simple.
Your main responsibility is to take care of yourself. The reason the airlines tell you to put the oxygen masks on yourself first is so that you can be breathing and awake enough to put them on others that need it. That's something I think about when even now my knee jerk reaction would be to pass out trying to put them on my kids. And my kids are 18 and 22.
When you're focus is pulled back into your own reality, your energy is within your own space. It's amazing when that happens - things you've been trying to manifest for years start to happen. Mainly because you're "home" to receive them. Other people benefit from you're taking responsibilty for yourself. Either they no longer have to take responsibility for you, so they have energy for themselves. Or, because you no longer are, they start taking responsiblity for themselves! It allows everyone to grow up, no matter how old they are!
So I invite you to play with this for the next week - think in terms of responding to, rather than reacting. And notice what happens when you do!
