The Immense Power of Powerlessness

The Immense Power of Powerlessness ©2019 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

This game of Life in the physical realm is an amazing creation. It’s a playing field of polarities, where often the opposite is true. When I try to explain advanced spiritual concepts to people, I constantly find I’m contradicting myself.

Whether we’re conscious of it or not, we are always engaging with the unseen. When you understand a few basic principles, it becomes much easier to navigate this reality.

The core concept is power, what it is, what is it’s source, and how to use it. People think of power as something really big, and something outside of themselves. They assign it values, like good and bad. Powerful people are invariably bad. They dominate weak people, who are the rest of us, and we’re good, even though it’s bad to be weak. The rest of us are powerless, we can’t use power, that would make us bad. You can see the insanity of this line of thinking.

With this mindset, we’re constantly giving power to other things, because everything is more powerful than we are. And then we can’t change, because everything outside ourselves is in control, so we have to try to change everything (and everyone) to fix our reality.

The truth is, power is simply energy and focus, and the real source of it is within each one of us. When you stop focusing on the thing you’ve been giving the most power to, you become free of it.

People think that admitting powerlessness over something (or someone), is surrendering to their power. However, surrendering is simply ceasing resistance. That can look like giving up, but what you’re actually doing is not engaging with that energy pattern any more.

Many years ago I was in a relationship with a covert drug addict. I didn’t know they were using, but the energy in the house felt like static chaos. And trying to bring love into the situation was like pouring water into sand. In releasing my focus on trying to fix the situation actually gave them the space to release their focus on the things they’d given their power to.

This applies to other things as well. Recently I’ve been helping people with their finances, and I notice that debt is like a vacuum. It sucks prosperity out of your creations. When people stop using credit cards, their abundance increases.

Saying you’re powerless over people, places, and things isn’t saying you’re weak, or out of control. Ironically, you feel out of control when you’re focus is on trying to control people, places, and things!

The source of power is within you. It may not feel powerful, because we think of power as something with weight and density. In actuality, it feels expansive and light.  Empowerment feels normal because it's who you are. When you shift your focus to yourself as Consciousness, you access immense power. The wellspring of all creation is within you.

Hitting Bottom

Hitting Bottom ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

Sometimes your face has to hit the pavement before you turn around and look up.

Sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better.

We're watching a group of people imploding because what they believe is true and real, is not. What they think is powerful, is not. They have no true foundation, so what they are building cannot last.

It's scary to consider they could take the rest of us with them.

But maybe reality has to get just that insane, before we reclaim our power from it.

Do we have to step back and let it self destruct?

Non resistance is the most powerful form of protection. It's when your energy is so light, so transparent, that negative energy passes right through.

Non resistance has also been a powerful tool for social change. Perhaps we need to access our inner Gandhi, our inner Martin Luther King.

In non resisting, we don't feed the madness, we don't participate with crazy.

When you have a loved one who's an addict or alcoholic, you have to step aside as they are bottoming out. They need the consequences of their own actions. If you're not going down with them, they can't blame you for their bottom. But you can be there for them as they're climbing back out.

It's a different story when you're dealing with a narcissist or abuser. There's similar denial when you are entwined in their story, but it's not as clean cut to detach and step aside. There's no bottoming out for them. They're focused on taking you out first.

The most dangerous time for someone in a domestic violence situation is when they are about to leave or have just left. That's when they get killed. The abuse may have only been emotional or threatening before.

If an abuser is leaving, he created a campaign to assassinate your character. He spreads rumors, "she's so cold and unfeeling," "I'm leaving because of her mental cruelty" (when those adjectives really describe himself).

The best way to unfriend a narcissist is to ghost them. To slowly evaporate from their lives. Otherwise they'll do a similar campaign.

In leaving an abuser you have to have a plan. Know where you are going, a safe environment, supportive people. It may take months, secreting money away, a suitcase of clothes, learning the legal implications and prepare for possible reactions.

Narcissists and abusers are extremely resistant to therapy. Narcissists are unable to look at themselves. Abusers feel entitled to treat people the way they do. They'll pretend to respond to treatment and then revert back to their old behaviors the moment they have you back.

When I do the Skybox technique for this current reality, I look down at the field and it's a riot in a rugby match. Players and fans rolling in the mud, the coaches and even the refs standing on the sidelines, arms folded.

Patterns are rising to the surface with the intent to clear and people are getting entangled in them.

I look for the lightbringers and they are dots in the darkness. They seem to be underground, yet creating a network of light.

The information I can access from the Skybox is that, although as players we may feel powerless over the situation, over other people, places and things, it is time to get in touch with out internal power.

As Consciousness we are infinitely powerful. How we hold our own amidst this chaos is to center into our internal power.

As we each do that, it changes the landscape.

When I move up to the Goodyear Blimp, to get a broader perspective, I see the patterns breaking up faster than anticipated. Those in archaic power structures scrambling to get what they can before it all disappears.

When I focus on areas of the field from this higher viewpoint, I can clear those sections. It gives me a sense of power (and knowing where the power comes from, my highest self, not my player self).

I bring that awareness down to the Skybox and it helps me looking down at the scrimmage on the field. I can see the lightbringers walking inbetween the players bashing each other, recognize the actions being taken to restore harmony to the field. It is the ultimate in non-resistance, not engaging with the fight energy but focusing bringing a different vibration to the whole.

I decide to join them, going down first to the sidelines, where I hear the coaches and refs talking. What I thought was inaction is really discussion and planning. Empowered movement is intended.

You can do this for yourself, for your situation. Go up to the Skybox and view your life from the bigger picture and gain wisdom from your higher self. You can bring it back with you in order to respond rather than react, and make choices and take action from more empowered stance.

I'm very curious to see what unfolds in the next few weeks.

Lies and Whispers

Lies and Whispers ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

We don't even know we're gossiping when we share juicy tidbits with coworkers, friends, and relatives. We share our opinions about other people and things, because we know our viewpoint is the right one.

And then there are the deliberate liars. We watch this play out in the news, politicians say things that aren't true, journalists slant the facts, celebrities distort their stories, all to make them or their side look better. It's all become entertainment. It's all about the numbers, the ratings.
Scottish Fairy and Folktales
by Sir G.B. Douglas, 1900

Abusers make our that their victims are the abusers. Many women end up in jail when they were trying to protect themselves. Alcoholics are happily soused and innocent while their loved ones act insane from living with the pain unmedicated. Narcissists will say anything to secure their reputation.

What about in our own lives? What can you do when people are saying untrue and damaging things about you? Rumors are like wildfires. It's impossible to stop them by yourself. You can race all over, stomping on this one and that one, and you get engulfed in the flames.

It's pretty maddening when your ex tells people they're leaving you because you're cold and unfeeling when in reality they're having an affair. The family rage-aholic and verbal abuser claims you are the vicious and critical one. Or you're being scapegoated by your in-laws when their drug addicted family member gets clean and sober and they need another black sheep. The coworker who is stealing tells people that you're the thief.

For most untruths, you just have to let them die out on their own. Continue to live your life with your head held high. You know the truth of who you are and what really happened.

Yet, the more insidious the lie, the longer it seems to persist, coming to the surface years later. Families and communities are torn apart by lies. They go on for generations, fiction getting woven into the oral history as fact.

All of this is operating at the 'bottom of the fish tank'. Patterns and energy that are at the densest level of existence. This is a planet of dichotomies, a realm of polarities, it is meant to be oppositional.

Just because the earth is made of mud and swamps doesn't mean we have to wallow there.

We can play and enjoy the physical, emotional and mental levels of life without getting enmeshed in them. Suffering occurs when you believe you only exist in these three levels.

As Consciousness, you have created this reality, and created the storyline. Family, personal, and cultural history are all part of the story.

Shifting up to Consciousness perspective, I can see how I created lies and whispers in my life. I created my family background, I chose the aspects of the world that I engage in.

When I shift to living *as* Consciousness, it feels like those denser patterns and energies go away. They become invisible to me as my vibration becomes lighter. In truth, I become invisible to them as well. They can't interact with transparency. There's no resistance to hook on to.

We are collectively becoming more Conscious. This may feel like our vibration is raising, but to Consciousness it is coming more into form. You are embodying more as Consciousness.

That's why you see more love and compassion being expressed in the world. That's why you notice more misogyny, racism, abuse. We are no longer tolerating the intolerable. Protest is shining a light on the darkness. Shadows disappear in light.

As Consciousness you recognize abusers in your life as actors in your movie. When they go off camera (get written out of the storyline) they return to Consciousness. I think that's why there is so much conflict with abusers in the media today (and those in our lives). They are monsters and they are beings of light. In reality, they are embodying patterns we find monstrous.  Love exists in the darkest of places.

As any moment you can step out of those patterns, step away from that story, and into the Light of your own Beingness. You can step into living *as* Consciousness, opening up an infinite amount of choices and actions, different from the ones that felt predetermined by your past.

Living as Consciousness, when lies and whispers resurface, just out of earshot, you can realize that they are revisitations of the past but not indicators of your current reality. They have no hold on you, and the finger-pointers have no power over you.

As more of us begin living as Consciousness, such things fade away. There will always be foundational aspects to this reality. Mud will still exist but mud rakers will not.

You don't have to do anything to the external story. You don't have to tell people the truth. You don't have to change people's minds. You don't have to make the outside world believe your version.

Change within yourself and the outside world changes. Step back from the drama and watch the truth come to light.

It may require a media blackout for a while, or taking a break from family rumormongers or friends who gossip. Or it may be a matter of reclaiming your power from the story, or stepping into a new story.

Play with this for the next week, and watch your life transform!

On The 7th Day He Rested

On the7th Day He Rested ©2012 Joan M. Newcomb

Years ago I worked for a Church and one of the classes taught at the time was Psychic View of the Bible (it was *that* kind of Church).  I remember being told that only 10% of the Bible is accurate, because of all of the times it's been edited over the years.

In order to glean the Truth, you have to read it with Your own intuition.  One of the things I noticed was the story of creation, and how God took a break on the 7th day.  Really?  Omnipotent Consciousness, needing a break?

I realized it was a message to Consciousness in physical form that our bodies need breaks.  Our bodies need rest.  Consciousness never rests, Awareness is always Observing.

But our physical form needs a nap once in a while.

When we start on a spiritual path or a path of seeking higher Conscious- ness, we want to ignore the needs of the body.  Highly spiritual gurus and lamas and sages over the centuries have become celibate, gone on fasts, hung out in the wilderness (although most of that story was symbolic).

It's kind of missing the point.  We *are* Spirit, we're *already* spiritual.  We don't need to go out there to "get it", we don't need to starve or deprive the body to achieve enlightenment.

The idea of not giving the body rest, or food, or affection, is based on the concept that it is a distraction or something to be disciplined.

Would you not give your child rest, or food, or affection?  You'd be an abusive parent!

We are Consciousness in physical form.  Not 'the power and presence of God'.  Not 'an aspect of God'.  We ARE Consciousness.

As Consciousness we are wise, all loving, eternally amused, infinitely compassionate.  We already know everything, we just can't/don't access all Our information because these bodies can only download so much before our circuits fry!

Spiritual practices like meditation, yoga, can help raise our vibration to allow more energy/information in, but it still has limitations.

And that's why it needs naps.  And food.  And love.

Our bodies only know what they've experience from the moment they are born.  Our bodies are fearful of the future because they exist in the present moment.  The future represents death to the body because it doesn't exist out there.  It can freak out when You make so many changes in your life it doesn't have previous data to go on in order to function.  The future is a higher vibratory level that the body hasn't accelerated to yet.

The past can be both comforting and depressing to the body, because it's been there, but it's not there now.  The past is a lower vibratory level, the body has already grown beyond it, and to try to match the past or stay in it is invalidating.  Like keeping your 7 year old in kindergarten.

If you care for your body, it will take You where you want to go on your spiritual journey through life.  Most people's struggle with advancement is because their bodies are holding them back, just like a tired or hungry two year old is going to slow you down when traveling!

You can take responsibility for your body just as a loving parent would care for a child.  You can acknowledge it when it works hard, give it healthy food, put it to bed at a reasonable time, love it and nurture it in the ways you may not have received love and nurturing from your biological parents.

Addictions are a slightly different story.  It's when the body's needs are distorted and the addict personality is off and running the show.  Would you let your drunk or high teenager drive?

At the core of any addiction is the body's desire for comfort, to be pain free.  That first drink feels great.  That 10th one feels horrible.

You are *not* caring for your body by letting it eat gallons of ice cream and zone out in front of the TV.  It doesn't feel good after a night like that.

It takes you further away from what you are really seeking.

The body can resist and be angry when you start to take charge after letting it run the show in that way.  There are spiritual programs for dealing with any addiction.  The 12 steps were actually based on 6 steps from a mystical group (extra steps were added so there weren't any loop holes for addicts to sneak through)!

Addiction thinks it is God, so it blocks Consciousness (although Conscious- ness is always there, just stepped back and waiting). At such times, it takes a supportive group of people who've 'been there' to offer experience, strength and hope in detoxing the body, recovering the personality, regaining spiritual awareness.

In the present moment, where your body exists, everything is very, very well.  You have everything you need.  Oxygen, daylight, nature.  It is the place where You, Consciousness, can manifest in physical form to experience the ecstatic wonder of physical sensation.  It's where you can initiate change, creation of experiences.

That's all you need to do this week, is be in present time, respond to your body when it expresses it's needs, and enjoy the sunshine!

Try this for 7 days and see what happens!
