How To Handle The Waves of Change ©2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
Wow, this is an intense time. So many things are coming at us. We have to handle multiple things at once. There's no time to rest. There's certainly no sleep at night!!
Now, some people may find this exhilarating. They may feel on top of their game. Yay, them.
Most folks are finding this challenging and overwhelming. If this is you, even though your circumstances are unique, you're not alone!
What is happening is that Greater Consciousness is coming into form. This is stirring things up.
This will show up in your life in situations or relationships provoking feelings of conflict, resistance, pain, fear, anger, or just wanting to sleep all day!
How to handle these waves of change?
You can fight it. This might be energizing to some. It may keep them from being paralyzed with fear. It might help them break through to the next experience. Or it might get you more enmeshed in it.
You can pretend it's not happening. This is a different tactic. Just keep going to work and home and act as if nothing unusual is going on. Fake it 'til you make it. This strategy is useful to some folks, a way to hunker down and get through it. However this can also backfire, the situation can accelerate until you have to pay attention to it!
You can ride with it. Life is like kayaking, sometimes we hit white water, grab hold of your paddles! This is a great way not to resist and 'go with the flow' no matter how fast and rough it may seem.
You can dive through the waves. If you're standing in the water at the beach and the wave seems too big, just dive through it! You'd be surprised how quick you get to the other side.
Old patterns are breaking down. Situations that don't serve are either going away or getting worse. It's an opportunity for you to try something new or different, or put into practice what you already know.
However it's on the way to getting better. You could come out of this time period completely transformed! Don't resist the ride.
If you really, really want things to be different, this is your chance to change things! Portals of change are opening and are everywhere. All you have to do stay is stay alert, and step through them!

How To Deal With The "New Normal"
How To Deal With The "New Normal" (c) 2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
One of my neighbors stopped me on my walk and offered condolences. "Emma's died?" She and her husband had seen us carrying her out to the lawn in her last days.
When she came back from the vet, after her biopsy, she'd stopped walking. So we carried her outside twice a day. It wasn't all that different from before, since she'd like to sleep most of the day anyway. It was a "new normal".
She was too heavy for me to lift and at some point my husband hurt his back, so we both lifted her using the four corners of the towel that we had under her. I found myself singing the song from Aladdin as she went on a 'magic carpet ride' to the outside world. Corgis are always smiling, but she grinned even more as she could feel the fresh air and smell all the smells.
This concept of it being a 'new normal' had helped me when my mother, after 10 months on home hospice, stopped walking and became bedridden. She had Alzheimer's and cancer, and the blessing was that she didn't know she had either. She wondered why she stayed in bed all the time. "Oh, you always like to sleep a lot." I said. Which was true, she had hated me getting her up in the morning and now I didn't have to...
Now the new normal is that Emma is gone and we're putting off getting another dog. We're cherishing being able to sleep in on weekends and go out for dinner without having to walk someone. I did, however, get a new fish, which I call "Puppy", so I can say that I did get one.
It occurred to me that we're hitting "new normals" all the time, even if they're not healthy. People are getting numb from the news, the emotional roller coaster of deliberately inflammatory and distracting tweets, of human rights being systematically dismantled and withdrawn.
There's always a pendulum swing in politics and at some point this will all reverse itself. And as Consciousness, I see what is really happening is that those who seem most powerful, are actually the least. And they are scrambling to restore a paradigm that has already disintegrated. We are have evolved as Consciousness, are embodying more of ourselves as Consciousness, so we are all already individually too empowered to go back to that antiquated acceptance of domination.
It hit me that we're stepping into a new existence, which requires us to expand to a new normalcy. Energetically it feels lighter. We're used to feeling weighed down, that being more powerful means occupying more physical space.
When you embody more of yourself as Consciousness, it feels buoyant. When you feel empowered, it feels more internally powerful. It actually feels effortless and relaxed. Standing in your own power feels confident, because as Consciousness you *are* wisdom. There's an absence of a need to dominate or compete because we're *all* Consciousness.
It starts by focusing within, because our bodies are our anchor points as Consciousness into this physical realm. However, we're operating at a higher frequency than ever before, so it really only requires a focal point, a pinpoint of Consciousness, to bring you fully aware into form. And it can be anywhere within. I used to have rigid opinions about where this should be and how it should be done. Rigidity is the old normal.
Try this for yourself. Wirelessly connect as Consciousness into form, and notice what's different. That's your new normal. Doing this regularly has a ripple effect into the rest of your reality. Play with this during the week and see what happens!

Enjoying Uncertainty (and Randomness)
Enjoying Uncertainty (and Randomness) © 2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
Don't we all love our routines. We want life to be predictable. We find comfort in the familiar. We go to astrologers and psychics to be told our futures, so we can be certain what it coming ahead for us.
Physical reality feels so solid. A mountain is a mountain, it's going to be there, in the same place, day after day. The sun comes up every morning and it goes down every night.
Our bodies feel dense, they move us about our day, they help us be here in the world. We enjoy the world through our body, taste, touch, sight, smell, we savor physical sensations.
We want things to stay the same, be predictable, and at the same time we get bored and want change. Not too much change. Maybe a change of scenery, by going on vacation. Maybe a change of routine by moving to a different dwelling or changing jobs. We like that level of differences.
But something bigger is happening, and it's throwing us all off. We've had previews of this coming up. We've had shocking times when a relationship suddenly ends, or we get fired, or some natural disaster upends our lives.
This is different. Reality is speeding up and breaking down. It all looks very solid and real, it still feels very solid and real. And yet, at the same time, it's malleable.
I've noticed this recently with time. I'm very time conscious. I'll know I have about 5-10 minutes to do something before I need to leave the house. I'll check my watch, my phone, my laptop, multiple times while I'm finishing my tasks. At the numbers don't move. It stays 10:45am (or whatever time) until I complete what I need to do.
(That's actually happening now as I write this).
It's reflecting in daily life as well.
You've noticed times where you've had synchronicity, you think of someone and they contact you, you think of something and it manifests. You have a song going through your head and then turn on the TV and it's playing.
And these things are happening more frequently, and in more extreme or bizarre ways.
Life is becoming more random and it can be uncomfortable.
I see these as reminders that this reality is a hologram, a creation of Consciousness. As we each embody greater consciousness, life becomes less certain but it's not a bad thing.
It means that life is a game to be experienced and enjoyed. Approach each day with curiosity, and wonder. Respond with playfulness, improvise solutions.
As you start to navigate from this higher perspective, you no longer resist what's going on in the storyline. Negativity stops being negative, no longer triggers you. In fact, entrenched stories completely transform. That awful boss either quits or becomes angelic, for no apparent reason. Your family no longer irritates you, you find them amusing.
Things aren't happening to you, and nothing is more powerful than You are.
Relax into this new experience and observe reality reorganizing around you. Things you desperately desired you no longer care about. Situations you struggled to create suddenly happen effortlessly.
Inherently it's a benevolent Universe. Inherently *you* are Consciousness. At your Essence, or as your Essence, you are creating all of this. And we love our creations. You are creating your Self, and You adore you.
You may be at the tipping point of this realization, afraid to take the plunge.
Come in, the water's fine.

Bizarro World
Bizarro World ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
It has been a strange week. In the US, we had a surprise outcome to the election (although I feel the surprises aren't done, keep reading for more). Tuesday evening, while the votes were still being tallied, someone emailed me that they were losing their shit. "Where's my Parallel Universe now?"
Well, the Parallel Universe I'm in feels pretty bizarre.
Here's what I know:
When we begin to live life as Consciousness, weird and inexplicable things start to happen.
As Consciousness, there is no good nor bad. It's all about experiences.
If you are experiencing negativity or limitation, that is your "player self" (I also call it body /personality).
If you are experiencing infinite possibilities, that it is a benevolent Universe, that's yourself as Consciousness.
Our "player self" is resistant, rebellious, wants to change, fix or control things. And it can't, so it feels powerless.
Consciousness is neutral or amused. Consciousness is also playful and curious.
You can create change in this reality *if* you are playful and amused and curious about the outcome. If you are trying hard, using a lot of effort, setting really specific intentions, you may build something that becomes real, but there will be loopholes or something wrong.
Here's what I'm intuiting:
That there's a lot that can change between now (November) and the inauguration (January 20th). We aren't on a predictable path.
As Consciousness increases, it exposes the darkness, so it seems like there's more of it, but it is in the process of disintegrating.
It's no use directly fighting (or resisting) the darkness. That's just shadow boxing. What dissipates the darkness is more light.
Now, Consciousness is continually in motion, and plot changes can happen at any moment.
This morning I was wondering what was going to unfold in the next few months, and I came across a video on the Electoral College, which is the group that actually elects the president. They don't vote until December. 19th. I posted on Facebook yesterday morning that maybe this is why we feel something is "off" and it hasn't happened yet.
Two hours later there's a petition going around to make the Electoral College vote differently.
As I type this, it occurs to me that other things could arise to make this happen. The elected candidate is embroiled in lawsuits. More things could arise to change the outcome.
I remember years ago when someone was re-elected, I thought 'it has to get worse before it gets better'. And it did. But that pendulum-swinging is an old paradigm cause-and-effect. We've shifted into the quantum world of randomness.
Just because we've had 8 years of progress doesn't mean we need to swing back to balance. Anything is possible.
This is happening globally as well. Britain voted for Brexit, with a lot of loud regret after it happened. Their PM resigned and a new one stepped up to accelerate the process. A lawsuit called for it to require a vote by Parliament. So now it may unfold differently.
Here's what you can do:
Take your focus off the drama, doom and gloom. Bring your attention back into yourself, into your Self as Consciousness.
Shift your awareness to one of curiosity and amusement, like you are viewing this as a reality show (which it is).
If you want to set intentions, do it with open ended statements. "Everything is unfolding in my favor." "The Truth is coming to light." "Everyone in my hologram is living happily every after." (this allows for outcomes beyond your limited imagination).
Then release it, go forward with your day, notice what is different (subtle changes validate that you've made the shift as Consciousness and keeps you unfolding in the new direction.
Wouldn't it be fun if everyone did this?
I'm curious to see what happens.

Why Fire Your Spirit Guides?!?
Why Fire Your Spirit Guides?!? ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb
Much has been written about connecting to your spirit guides or guardian angels. It's reassuring to know that there's unseen help. People have experienced miraculous, real world results when working with invisible helpers.
We are born with some of them, and we collect others along the way. Some are more active than others. If we had rough childhoods, we may have had a mariah step in to handle things. If we created a business, chances are there's a deva overseeing it.
It's empowering to actively communicate with them, to make requests and receive information. You can tune into them through meditation, or journaling, or just talking aloud when you're driving (both hands on the wheel so it doesn't look like you're on your phone)!
When I started having regular 'staff meetings' with my business devas, my income skyrocketed. I've also used them for health related issues with some success. Pretty much any area of your life can be improved with support from Spirit.
So *why* on earth would you want to fire your Spirit Guides?
Here are a few reasons:
1. When they limit or hold you back. Childhood Mariahs are protectors when you're little but as an adult you don't need a nanny. They are lovely beings, but they still see you as a child.
2. When you've entered a new phase of growth. We'll call in guides to assist us when we're at certain levels of awareness. When we advance in Consciousness, we need ones that match us at our higher vibration.
3. When you've changed directions. Angels, guides, devas, all have a specific focus or area of attention. If you finish medical school and suddenly realized you only did it to please your family of doctors and your real passion is law, you may need a different team of helpers.
How do you fire your guides?
You don't have to go all Donald Trump on them. I've found a wonderful serenity and neutrality when working with the other side. They don't need drama, just respect.
1. Communicate with them directly. Have a little chat in whatever way works for you. Writing it down helps validate the communication for you because you can read it afterwards. Prayer and meditation gives your communication a focused intent. I like talking outloud with my guides, when I'm driving, or walking my dog. (You can wear your headset plugged into your phone that's turned off, if you're worried that your neighbors will think you're looney).
2. Bring them into the present moment. Imagine the energy of present time, or a calendar with today's date. This is especially effective with childhood guides. Somtimes they will automatically disappear. They can go off to help another kid.
3. Release their contract. We make agreements with our invisible friends. You can upgrade or release their contract and they will go on their way.
Now what?
You may want to take some time to reclaim your own energy, be with yourself in your new space. Or you might be ready to hire new staff to help you!
1. Specifically ask for what you want. Because you will get it. Again, do this in a way that works best for you. If you prefer ritual or formality, you can light candles, say prayers or affirmations, write something and put it on your vision board.
2. Be open for something different. When I upgraded my business devas, I'd been use to formal staff meetings. My new group didn't work that way. They were like a bunch of mellenials with iPhones that would spontaneously "psychic text" inspiration to me.
3. Take Action. Some angels will go out and find you clients while you sit on your couch eating popcorn. But more than likely you'll get intuitive hits or opportunities that require you to take action. We're the ones in physical bodies, so we have to act in order to make things real.
Try these suggestions and fasten your seatbelt, because your life is about to accelerate!

It Works When You Work It
It Works When You Work It ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
It pretty much doesn't matter what it is, from a diet to meditation, it won't work unless you're working it.
You can be an intellectual expert on a topic, but understanding something is entirely different than putting something into action.
It doesn't mean that accomplishing a desired goal is easy. It's not necessarily 'just do it', but sometimes it's 'do it anyway'. It can be hard. It can be uncomfortable. It can be awkward.
You probably won't feel like it, even if it's good for you (or especially if it's good for you).
You won't get good at it unless you start.
It's the same with law of attraction, healing work, and energy techniques. Consistency, focus, and practice makes them real.
Simple is usually the most effective. Do the first indicated thing. Take the first step, and keep going.
Often we get defeated before we even start. We look at the end point and get frozen with perfectionism.
Your house won't get decluttered that way. Set a timer for 15 minutes and start somewhere, anywhere. Play music. Listen to a recording.
It takes 90 days to initiate a good habit, or divert a bad one. It takes time to shift energy, too. Every day you get a chance to more towards what you want to create.
Baby steps or "micro" habits are effective, too. Floss one tooth a day. Do one pushup. Meditate for 60 seconds. Drink black tea instead of coffee with milk.
Energy techniques are a great way to manifest change, without having to know how to actually achieve your desired outcome. Every morning, imaging popping a dozen bubbles that represent whatever is keeping you from doing or having what you want.
Every day step through doors of parallel universes, to a more desired reality.
Keep it small, keep it consistent, one moment at a time, one day at a time. Work it, and you will see it works!

Reasons versus Excuses
©2014 Joan M Newcomb
A while ago I learned that sometimes abusive behavior comes out of depression. That is, the person who rages at you might actually be depressed (so much for thinking that depression is *repressed* anger).
That's great. I mean, it's great to understand the reason, but it's not an excuse. Understanding the reason for a behavior gives you the opportunity to remedy it. Take steps to address it but it doesn't let you off the hook for having done it.
Reasons give you clarity, so you can take action. Excuses are what you make to stay stuck.
Say you had a crappy history, that's great fertilizer for growth. Understanding about dysfunctional patterns allows you to become conscious of behaviors so you can change them. You're no longer a child, you may just feel like one when you get triggered. Help is available, both visible and unseen.
You can't change the past, you can't change others, and you can change yourself, your actions and your viewpoint.
Your inner child really wants You, the wise Essence of who you really are, to drive the car. If you're triggered, ground yourself in present time reality by talking (kindly and gently) to your child self, let them be in the safety seat behind You.
You can succeed in going where You want to go, in spite of your history, in spite of others out there still playing out old patterns.
Each one of us that stands in the present moment, breaking the pattern by choosing differently, creates healing for everyone.
Changing yourself creates change everywhere.

[When searching for an illustration for today, I found this instead, perhaps more fitting?]

Dirty Thoughts
This is still a powerful time for setting your intentions, creating your visions, and making choices to bring them into reality. What kind of choices are you making? From what space are you making them?
Manifesting through reality paradigms. A fancy, schmancy way of saying, you can't paint with old oils (or watercolors). Or an old paint brush!
You can set any number of intentions, make vision boards up the wazoo, recite affirmations until the cows come home, but if you remain in the same energy patterns, then you'll always create the same outcomes.
You can even 'do a geographic', move to another city, change your looks, change jobs, change friends, but if your core pictures don't reset, you'll stay the same.
It doesn't matter what seeds you plant, if they're going in cement and watered with vinegar, you're not going to grow anything.
What creates fertile soil? What creates growth?
Do something different, anything different. You can start with microsteps. Drive a different route to work. Wear a different color than you're used to wearing.
After you pour your morning coffee, set the timer to 5 minutes, put the phone or tablet down, close your eyes and breathe. Listen to sounds. Feel sensations in your body.
I know a couple who, after they moved to a different city to retire, spent a week using their non-dominant hands to do things, whether it was to pick up the coffee cup in the morning, hold the phone to their ear, open doors, etc. It was a way of resetting their experience in a new environment.
Microsteps are great ways to create new habits. Set the timer to 15 minutes and clear the clutter in your office. Stop when the timer goes off, and move to a different room (unless you're on a roll, then stay where you are).
I know two different authors who prolifically write books by microstepping. One works 30 minutes at a time regardless of her busy schedule. One has multiple books going at once and writes on whichever one moves her at the moment.
You have to bypass your brain. It was your stinking thinking that got you into a rut in the first place. Dirty thoughts create a murky reality.
Haven't given an assignment for a while: For the next 7 days, make different choices every day. And see what happens!

And Now For Something Completely Different
And Now For Something Completely Different ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
Think of something you want in your life. Is it a new (or renewed) relationship, a successful career, more money, less weight, better health?
How would You have to be different?
Look back on your life, have you ever had that thing that you want? What did it feel like? What changed when you didn't have it anymore? Maybe you've never had it, it's always been just out of reach.
You keep saying, 'oh I just wish I had' more money, but reject suggestions on how to create it. It's too hard, it would take too much effort, you'd "sell out to The Man".
"I wish I had a relationship" and yet everything about your life keeps people out rather than lets someone in. Really sharing intimacy is scary. Being alone is like living in a house with no mirrors.
You never lost that 'baby weight', or all women gain weight at menopause, or powerful men (or women) carry more weight. Being thin feels vulnerable. Being thin means unwanted attention.
Health patterns, body gets sick, body has pain, body feels discomfort. It's always been that way, my dad had the same problem, it's genetic. No matter how hard I try, I can't... (fill in the blank).
If you had what you wanted, what would you lose? Maybe your partner wouldn't take care of you anymore? Maybe you wouldn't attract someone in your life to take care of you?
Maybe people wouldn't like you anymore if you were (whatever it is)? You'd lose your friends.
Rich people are unconscious. Wealthy people just care about their money. You can't be spiritual and prosperous.
I can want that thing, but I can't have it because...
Argue for your limitation, and they're yours (Richard Bach). Just because something has always been that way, doesn't mean it can't be different.
In order to have what you want in your life, you have to change your core identification. Start thinking of yourself as a thin person. An abundant and generous person. Someone in partnership.
What does success feel like?
A couple decades ago, Shirley Maclaine was on the Oprah Winfrey show. Oprah made a comment about weight and Shirley looked at her and said, if you want to lose weight, you'll have to want everything to be different (or words to that effect). After that, Oprah turned into a stick. It was her first bout with weight loss, and it wasn't healthy.
Then Oprah moved into a phase of running marathons, her weight stabilized. She was at a place of gaining power and strength, both in body and in her life.
Then Oprah radically put on weight again. She shared about having thyroid problems. She probably entered menopause. What was also happening, she was developing a network station (beyond just her TV show). Her weight ballooned as she expanded into this new aspect of power in her life.
Now she's had her network for a while, it looks like her weight is going back down.
Oprah's a wonderful example of changing her reality, and bringing up core issues we all struggle with.
Whatever is most elusive in your life, you are propelling away from you in your beliefs. You may be comfortable in your discomfort. Misery is familiar, joy is not.
At the end of an energy session, I tell people to 'notice what is different'. If you go, well that didn't change anything, you've reset yourself back to the state you were in when you walked in the door.
Healthy people made different choices (about food, about lifestyle, about...). People in relationship share their lives, make space for someone in their world.
If you've never had whatever it is you want, you may not know what it feels like. Be willing to step into the unfamiliar. Open yourself to being different.
You may be in a family system, or a constellation of friends, that support the way you are, but not something functional or healthy. Be willing for the old to fall away. Maybe you can be a shining example for others to follow!
What would it take for you to have what you want? Are you willing to go to any length to be healthy?
Maybe people in your life actually want you to be happy, or to have what it is you desire. Notice if you deflect other's suggestions.
You claim you want to be thinner, people only see you eating salads, but not the ice cream in the middle of the night.
You bemoan being poor but never follow through on those help wanted ads on Craigs List. A little voice in your head sabotages your efforts. Who needs enemies when your own thoughts are doing such a good job at holding you back?
You can be thin after menopause, you can be healthy and people still like you, you can have money and free time as well.
Changing your reality is as simple as shifting states. Step to one side or another, and you've stepped into a parallel reality where that is possible. Notice what is different.
Notice when the 'Automatic Negative Thoughts' come up, and ignore them. Don't feed the ANTs with your attention.
Healthy food tastes better. Good men (or women) aren't so hard to find. There's a perfect job out there with a wonderful work environment.
Shift your focus and you'll see all the new possibilities.
Make one change in your routine, take a walk after dinner instead of watching tv. Have fruit for dessert.
Imagine the world wanting your success. Your attaining what you desire encourages others to have it as well.
Whatever transformation you want, Your expanded self already is there. Step into that new reality.
If it's earning or working, be different with your time. Catch yourself on your 'time wasters' and spend 15 minutes tackling something on your 'to do' list.
If it's money, be different with your spending. Start tracking your numbers, save receipts, look at where you are leaking money. Clarity can be a big relief.
If it's food, write down everything you eat. Make different choices. Stop drinking anything with calories. Choose water or tea with lemon.
If it's relationship, notice whether (or where) you hang out with other people. If all you date are alcoholics, stop hanging out in bars! Meet people for coffee rather than drinks!
Is there room in your life for someone, or is half of your bed piled high with books?
Yes, you've heard this all before, but nothing changes if you change nothing. Stop spinning your wheels.
"The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off!" (Gloria Steinem)
Perhaps you have to get angry to get out of your rut!
Sometimes we claim we want something, and it's actually something else we really desire. What would make you happy?
The Universe wants to give you what you're asking for. Can you have it?

Why Fight With Patterns?
Why Fight With Patterns? ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
One of the things I noticed when my parents were dying is their patterns unravelling. We each are a tapestry of patterns, a lifetime of accumulated energies.
When we pass, they drop, like clothing without a body. When you're with someone who is passing, your own patterns light up. You either fight tooth and nail for their validity, or you can allow yours to drop as well. The latter is not so easily done, as there are others within your life weaving who are invested in the reality of these patterns.
Since my last parent died, there's been quite a residue of "stuff". I've chosen to shine light on it, to speak up and to question it, which has caused a discordant ripple in the combined family fabric.
Heck, anything that doesn't agree with the current vibration is going to appear inharmonious. Really, it's a pattern that's come to the surface because it is dissolving.
Why fight with it? Why not step back and let it dissipate? Because to remain silent is, in a way, to agree with it. Because part of the pattern is secrecy and complacency.
Keeping one's mouth shut is part of the pattern. Staying quiet means allowing it to stay within you. And I'm not carrying this forward.
Yet the opportunity is to rise above it, to look down on it from the clouds, so that everyone involved look like ants. From an airplane, do you really feel that engaged with traffic jams below?
If I really let go of the pattern(s) within me, would everyone else behave differently? There wouldn't be anything to reflect.
If I really let go of the patterns myself, everyone could behave as crazily as they already are behaving, but it wouldn't make me insane as well.
What's crazy is to expect others to behave differently. We can only change ourselves.
How do you change yourself, when these patterns are so ingrained that they are invisible to you. They are an accepted part of your family reality.
It's easiest to work on a symbolic level. You can see it as an image, hear it as a sound, feel it as a vibration. Imagine yourself, and see the design separate from your energy space. Or, hear your own note or melody, and mute the disharmonious notes. Let your vibration be high, light and bright, and what feels 'off' drains out of you into the earth.
Work on a quantum consciousness level, step to one side, into a Universe where that pattern doesn't exist, you never had it, you never will. Turn and shift in your new space, this will often change the entire cast of characters as well.
Play with this for the next 7 days and see what happens!

Truth, Toxic Patterns, and Train Wrecks
Truth, Toxic Patterns, and Train Wrecks ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
Some say we can never go home again. But we can always revisit old, familiar situations. The challenge is to dip down into the pattern, and come back up again without getting entangled!
It helps to remember that they're just energy. It's when we believe that they're real we get stuck in them.
Here's what I'm remembering, from my most recent 'dip down':
A couple of decades ago I was involved with a cocaine addict. I started going to Al-Anon, and a year later the addict quit using and went into recovery. Then I discovered addiction showing up in my work place, and then my church at the time. Sometimes I'd realize I was in a toxic situation by my reaction to it, the alcoholic or addict not becoming evident until later.
I learned that it wasn't the person who was addicted, but the energy patterns that I was responding to.
One thing I learned was that often the addict seems fine, but people around them are bouncing off the walls and foaming at the mouth. It's because the people around them are experiencing the painful situation unmedicated.
People who grow up in alcoholic households can become extremely controlling, because they're trying to make their environment safe (having grown up in out-of-control homes). Or people who grow up in addictive households will act like alcoholics without actually being chemically dependent.
It's different when you've come from an abusive background. You can have a parent who is alcoholic and yet know that they love you. Your parent (or partner) can be an addict, but they don't verbally or physically abuse you. It still messes with your head, because their focus is going towards their drug of choice. You're not receiving their full attention, or you feel crazy from their lies.
Abusers are a different story. They make you feel like it's your fault they're abusing you Alcoholics at least can hit bottom and recover and make amends. Abusers hardly ever recover, they feel entitled to treat their partners and children the way they do.
When an abuser leaves, they set up a pre-emptive strike, they make themselves the victim.
It's especially crazy-making when they go on to reinvent themselves as the most wonderful and loving person in the world - and that new world believes them. The abuse continues by treating the previous family members with contempt, as second class citizens, the new partner unwittingly enables the abuser by believing their version of history.
It's different than when an alcoholic recovers and goes on to live a life of sobriety. They can become the most wonderful and loving person in the world, but they acknowledge their past, have made amends. (And, admittedly, there are alcoholics that haven't made amends, so their new life isn't emotionally or mentally clean and sober).

They can become the most wonderful and loving person in the world, but they acknowledge their past, have made amends. (And, admittedly, there are alcoholics that haven't made amends, so their new life isn't emotionally or mentally clean and sober).
How the hell do you recover from all of that?
It takes a lot of light.
Distance helps. Detachment helps. Recovery helps. Therapy helps. Spiritual practice helps. Speaking your truth, standing in your own light.
I've been out of active alcoholic patterns for a lot of years. I've been away from abusers (and narcissists, while we're at it), for years as well. I've been focusing on my own path, on the leading edge of Consciousness, evolving, shining light.
Of course, as you grow, move forward, you uncover new layers of things. When you're remodeling your spiritual house, you'll find stuff within the walls, even the structure, that require updating.
You create opportunities to clear, you step yourself into experiences to illuminate what needs to change.
I remember when I took a strong step away from the pattern of alcoholism, and this was after a decade of Al-Anon, I had an amazing Spiritual Awakening. I felt in Love with God, in Love with my life, and in Love with myself (in that order). Even though I still had the same challenges with being a single parent and keeping a roof over our heads, I was in this highly conscious state, able to come back to center.
This feeling recurred a few years later, when I identified a new issue, stepping away from a new addictive pattern. This time I was in Love with mySelf, in Love with my life, and in Love with God (in that order).
So. Something new is happening, I haven't fully identified it. I could say that I'm moving to 4D, but in reality we are all already there.
I think we've all shifted to a new level of Consciousness, we're all running a higher vibration, and what doesn't match that vibration in our bodies or our lives is disintegrating.
An opportunity to live more in integrity with our values?
As we're at this higher vibration, we may dip down into older patterns, but it's not useful to wrestle with them. Shine light on them. Speak your Truth and step back. Be in your own authority and seniority.
Wave bye-bye to the chunks of patterns as they fall away. Stand in your own Light (it feels better there, anyway).

Domino Detox
Domino Detox ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
When I was going through Clairvoyant training in my early 20's, I de-energized a level of family patterns. I was aware of stepping outside of family dynamics. It was as if one had removed a tile from a row of dominos.
Over the years, I've encountered deeper levels of patterns to unravel and remove. Getting married, having kids, getting divorced, being single for some time, getting remarried, kids going to college, leaving home, parents aging and dying, all bring opportunities for continued clearing.
You or your parents getting married introduces you to a whole other family's dynamics as well, which can be very interesting. Where do you fit within their patterns? (Where do they fit you)?
Families have different roles. If someone steps out of their place in the pattern and you're the new in-law, you can get put there (with your conscious or unconscious agreement).
It's most amusing when you're replacing their resident scapegoat or black sheep, or rescuer or saint. Don't take it personally, it's just their projection.
Such patterns can be hard to detach from, if you're in the midst of them. If you're intuitive or sensitive, you can feel a little nutty when they're inside your head or in your space.
How can you regain your sense of self at such times? Take a sanity break.
Sanity breaks can look like - a quick trip to Starbucks, a nap, coffee with friends, a twelve step meeting, a run around the park, an afternoon at the library. Anything that steps you outside the hologram or soundstage, gives you a little breathing room.
Patterns can feel so real when you're in the midst of them. They're in visible, yet tangible.
How do you go back into the environment yet maintain your sense of self?
View everything as if it's a movie (which is it). Don't react (which is unconscious) but choose your actions. Be amused.
Be at a higher vibration than your environment. Imagine yourself in a bubble of gold energy.
Be non-resistant. Imagine yourself transparent, or wearing an invisibility cloak; negative energy moves through you.
Focus on changing yourself, not others. Simple energetic shifts can change the atmosphere and everyone in it.
These suggestions work at home *and* at the office (as people bring their family patterns to work with them). Try any or all of these for a week and see what happens!

Growth Spurts
Growth Spurts ©2014 Joan Newcomb
If someone told me this time last year that I would be where I am today, I would have never believed them. Even six months ago, I would have been astounded.
And yet, at this moment, I can't imagine being anywhere else. Again I am in a place where it has to be me, it couldn't be anyone else. No one else knows what I know, could do what I'm doing. And no one else is who I am.
In order to be here I had to set aside many limiting beliefs. I have to hold two different truths, simultaneously. I have to stay sensitive and aware, and non-resistant. It's both effortless and difficult at the same time.
It's a friggin' growth experience.
Life is a growth experience. We make a decision as Essence to squeeze into form. Then as we decide to grow and change, our Essence steps into that space instantaneously. It takes time and space for Body to catch up.
Essence is beyond time and space. Essence is everywhere at once. Essence IS growth and change. Body exists within time and space. Body goes from the past to the future. Body raises and lowers it's vibration.
Sometimes we know the growth experience we're heading into, sometimes we're only given glimpses, and sometimes it's a total surprise. But know that nothing is thrust upon you, nothing outside yourself is forcing you to change. It's You as Essence that has created this opportunity.
You can say yes to it, you can say no to it. Sometimes a 'no' is really a yes to a different opportunity. But sometimes 'no' is resisting expansion, which doesn't stop the growth but just makes it more painful or difficult.
With each of my children, at the moment labor began, I thought, 'I changed my mind'!
At times like that, you can't really have a discussion about it. Birth's gonna happen.
I've found, however, that even in the midst of the most challenging growth periods, there's always a blessing, a moment of light, some kind of support, as long as we remain open and notice it.
Growth is always good, although sometimes it takes a few years to realize it.
Make it easier on yourself by not resisting (accepting what is, and moving forward with it). Realize that You created it, be in agreement with the greater aspect of Yourself. Stay open and curious, and see what happens!

How Bad Does It Have To Get?
©2011 Joan M. Newcomb
About seven years ago I was watching my country play out patterns from fifty (and seventy) years before. It was astounding to me to see things regressing to a time of more limitations, seemingly less individual choice and freedom. It was amazing to see events unfold to continue the direction things were going rather than reverse them.
About the same time the Catholic Pope died, and there had been the anticipation that the next would be more liberal. Instead a more traditional one was chosen.
It showed me that things were going to have to get more "bad" before things got better. And that it was a world evolution, not just my country's.
Since then, our economy plummeted and many other countries' followed.
We've been in a turnaround time for the last couple of years, although in some cases you wouldn't know it. There are loud and shrill voices trying to continue the trend of restrictions, to perpetuate the adjustments that were made in recent years to benefit the "haves" separating them further from the "have-nots".
My feeling was that the previous downward spiral had to continue in order for us to come out of denial, to see what was happening more clearly, it had to hit our back yards so to speak. It has to increase before a push-back occurs.
It's all part of the old energy disintegrating as our vibration consciousness raises. Those that cling to the old way are experiencing the most discomfort. That which is dying is illusion, and it yells the loudest.
The Middle East is a great example of the 'push-back' that is happening. Four or five countries are uprising now. It's the area with the oldest energy, the most limitation, the least freedom, the biggest dichotomy between wealth and poverty. A miraculous transformation is evolving there.
In my country it is happening on a grass roots level as well. Individuals gathering for civil rights, protesting the attempts of the old energy to continue control. It's not done here. We on the brink of another 60's style revolution.
For the Middle East it is just beginning. As each country topples old regimes, there's a lot for them to figure out, how to do things differently. Their culture(s) run deep.
We've reached critical mass, in terms of the Light entering our conscious awareness. Like 'the wave' at a baseball stadium, we are standing up, not simultaneously but in a fluid flow around the globe. We're at the 100th monkey point, where everyone is about to get it.
How bad does it have to get? Depends on where you are and how much you resist change. What's falling apart in your life is a reflection of lies/distortion you've been clinging to as truth. If you're out of work, you're being called to reinvent yourself. If your relationship is dissolving, you're needing to learn the same thing leaving it as you needed to learn to stay in it - owning your own power, speaking your own truth, creating your own foundation, setting your own energy level are some examples there. You may have had loved ones pass over; an opportunity to realize that no one ever dies, that they're easier to talk to now if harder to hear.
If you're witnessing others being stuck (friends, family, legislators) do not judge them. Feel compassion, for they are in extreme pain. Their world is crumbling and their identities are dissolving.. They are leaning against the sandbags of their beliefs and the tsunami of transformation is just too powerful.
Let it go. Let it happen. Be different. Be new. Be yourself. Speak up, stand up, take action. Break through the illusion, but don't wrestle with it. Don't use your energies to resist, but to propel you forward. Any step is in the right direction, and the Universe will support you.
Exciting times. Have fun with it.

Second & Third Chances
(c) 2010 Joan M. Newcomb
Just finished listening to Michael Caine's interview on the Today Show. The topic arose about second chances, because at some point Michael Caine thought he was washed up as an actor, whereas he was really transitioning from romantic leads to (the more interesting, I think) character roles. And now he's written his second memoir, so he's a side career as an author. And he has three grandchildren, which he says his life is "really all about".
We value longevity and stability in this world, even though as a culture we are moving through rapid changes that require being able to shift at a moment's notice. It's not uncommon for someone's resume to show them transitioning jobs every two years. Marriages lasting more than 5 are considered 'long term'. If you keep an appliance or an automobile that long, it most likely will have a recall out on it for some defect! A computer? Forget about it - all your original software is no longer compatible with the rest of technology.
Even within relationships, in order to maintain one so that it proves to be long lasting, requires you to continually grow and change. Whatever brought you together as a couple initially can become a limitation as you each mature. If you keep treating your offspring as children when they're adults, they may stop talking to you!
Life requires flexibility and creativity in order to live it joyfully.
It's important to give *yourself* second, third and fourth chances, too. Any ending of any sort is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and try something new. You loved that job, you loved that house, you loved that person, wonderful. To quote Maude, from Harold & Maude, 'now go and love some more'.
Now, there's a next step to this. In which you realize that You are not just the personality with a story line, but You are the Essence of who you are, you are Infinitely capable and creative. And you're making all this up.
It's not exactly that 'this is all an illusion', implying that it's not real. But You are bigger than you. As the little you, personality with a body, you can have access to all the information in the Cosmic Internet, but it feels like it's outside of yourself. It feels like the power is somewhere else. Shifting to the You that is Infinite, that is beyond this lifetime, you can see that you created it all, your individual storyline, and everyone else in your story line. You *are* the Cosmic internet.
You 'made all this up' in that you created this physical reality. Of course it feels real - it's reality! You also created everyone who shows up in your reality. They're not fake, just because you created them. You created them to be different personalities, because You wanted the feeling of being more than U (unity-universe).
When you're walking along the street, it feels like it's you in your body, and it takes time and space to get anywhere. When you're in a car, you get there faster. When you're in a plane, you can look down and see the city, and the country side, people look like ants (if you can see them at all). When you're in a space ship, you can look at the planet... and planets, and solar system.
In the 'up above' perspective you feel disconnected from 'lower down', and it can be easy to say 'it's an illusion'. However, look at your body. It's make up of cells, molecules, atoms. Each of them are 'real'.
There's a way of being 'up there' and 'down here' at the same time. Having both perspectives is very freeing. There are no mistakes, because You're creating it exactly the way it is. When you shift into Quantum Physics and Parallel Universes, you're creating all choices at once simultaneously. So there have never been any mistakes, you chose both colleges that accepted you and a parallel self went to the other one and created a whole other storyline (parallel universe) from there. You married that guy and you didn't marry that guy. You backpacked through Europe *and* you stayed home and accepted that entry level job. Right now there's a Parallel self that lives in Paris and speaks fluent French!
This week, play with seeing yourself and your life *as* Your Infinite/Essence. Be bigger than any problems you've created. Don't just be connected to the Cosmic Internet, *be* the Cosmic Internet! What risks to you feel empowered to take (because they're no longer risks)? What patterns disintegrate in your holographic story line? The script becomes improvisational!
Try this for a week and see what happens!

Becoming Willing
(c) 2010 Joan M. Newcomb
Many people have heard of the Twelve Steps, but many don't know that they've a mystical basis. Bill Wilson, who started Alcoholics Anonymous, belonged to The Oxford Group, which had it's foundation in Christian Mysticism. Bill took their 6 fundamental Steps and made them into 12 Steps, so that there weren't any loopholes that an alcoholic could slip through!
The 'bridge steps' he inserted were the ones with gentle suggestions 'came to believe' and 'became willing'. Others are more definite: 'made a decision', 'made a list', 'made direct amends'. It's all about easing yourself into action.
Becoming Willing is a wonderful way to ease yourself through transformation. It's what you can do when you know you need to make a change but don't feel ready yet to do it.
I consider it the baby step between quantum leaps.
Say you have a difficult transition coming up, if you know you'll eventually have to decide or take action on something but currently don't want to do it. All you have to do in the present moment is become willing. It's a way of slowly turning yourself in the right direction.
It's amazing how quickly and easily change can happen after becoming willing. It goes hand in hand with acceptance. You finally stop resisting your own growth and expansion, and accept this is the way the energy is flowing.
This isn't the same as stepping out of prevalent energy trends, such as not matching the group consciousness of Unemployment and The Economy - in those circumstances you don't need to accept the way *that* energy is flowing! But you do need to become willing to have a different experience than your peers!
Becoming willing is for when you feel stuck and unable to take action. Your comfort zone is uncomfortable, but you don't want to feel the discomfort making necessary changes! Or you're in a rut but don't know how to get out of it.
Becoming willing opens the doors to new possibilities. Becoming willing turns your thoughts to new directions. Becoming willing shows solutions you hadn't previously thought of.
So notice if there's any area of your life where you know needs to be different. Let yourself become willing to change. That's all you have to do this week. And see what happens!

change vs. maintenance
©2008 Joan M. Newcomb
Having just come back from helping staff a Matrix Energetics seminar in Baltimore, I was going to write about Morphic Fields. But the election has happened, and this subject was sitting in my list of potential ezine subjects, so I'm going to explore this today.
I'll start clairvoyantly. When I read auras, I'll often see the color green. Green means change to me, and the different shades of green depict different phases of change.
Spring green, the color of new blades of grass, is brand new change. It's the color around birth and death. It's in your aura when you get divorced, quit your job, and move to another city.
Medium green, the color of mature grass, is when the change has been in effect for some time. I call it maintenance, because you're maintaining the change that happened two or three years ago. You could use the analogy of mowing your lawn to maintain your yard or garden.
Dark green is when maintenance has faltered. You're letting things slide in the personal growth area. You've forgotten to keep mowing your lawn.
Olive or Khaki green is past time energy. Sometimes this just comes up if you've attended a family gathering or a class reunion. Other times it means your lawn has become a jungle and you need to get out the machete!
We've had an interesting eight years in the U.S., in which I've watched the governing powers revert changes that previous administrations had brought about. I'd never seen the cycle of change reversed before. It felt that we were returning to the 1950's in terms of ecology, human rights, and information privacy. It felt like we were returning to 1930's Germany in some aspects as well. (And it's seeming we're returning to post 1928 economy, but that's possibly an illusion).
So of course, change had to happen in a big way. I can imagine the new president will have to wield a big machete to get through the chaotic jungle left behind at the White House.
New administrations always have to deal with the remains of the previous ones. Their promise of change always is delayed because of it. It's possible it could take Obama four years to get things cleaned up to the point of being able to effect the change he talked about during his campaign.
However, things are energetically accelerating. Time and space are no longer limiting factors in creating change. It's possible for transformation to come about instantaneously.
Where does maintenance come in here? Maintenance looks a little different than it use to. Maintenance used to be keeping things as the previous change left them, but then could also be interpreted as the opposite of change. Maintaining routines, keeping things clear, all of which is helpful in terms of providing stability.
However now it seems that maintenance is more about keeping up with new changes, pushing past plateaus and continuing to challenge oneself with new expanding possibilities. A practice of letting go of the old and embracing the new could be seen as maintenance.
So I invite you to look at the cycles of change in your life, where are you keeping things going and where are you keeping things the same? With such a momentum in the air, you may find it easier now than ever to let go of old limitations!
