The Truth About Ho'Oponopono

Most people know about Ho'Oponopono from Joe Vitale's book Zero Limits but the popular version is missing an important element.

It's known as a Hawaiian prayer "I'm sorry, Please forgive me, I love you, Thank you," that Dr. Hew Len used to heal an entire locked ward of a state mental hospital, so that within two years the ward was closed.

However, William Bloom traces it further.  Turns out it's an ancient Polynesian prayer, that the entire village would say whenever an individual would do something wrong.  They would address Spirit, saying "We are responsible. We are sorry.  Please forgive us.  There is only love.  Thank you."

I love his take on it.  These key points are important:
1. The group addresses Spirit, not eachother, not the transgressor or the transgressed.
2. The group takes responsibility for the wrongdoing.
3. Sorry is an apology, acknowledging the error.
4. Forgiveness removes the energy so it no longer hurts.
5. Love fills in the space, and heals.
6.Thank you expresses appreciation for the healing, completes the prayer.

Energetically, this is what takes place:
First, the focus is toward Consciousness, not the personalities involved.  The energy is directed upward or inward, depending on how you feel the connection.

Secondly, there is collective ownership of the creation. The group holds energy, anything an individual does within its energy field is a result of all the threads of interaction.  Taking responsibility is taking ownership of the wrongdoing.  You can only make change when you own the action.

Sorry in this case is an action.  It's the response part of taking responsibility. You can only make change when you feel what was done was wrong or caused injury.

Forgiveness is a neutralizing step.  It doesn't make the wrongdoing ok but removes its ability to continue to hurt.  It releases the discordant thread.

Love brings in Spirit, raises the energy, fills in the space created.

Thank you completes the healing, expresses gratitude and appreciation to Spirit.

Imagine if you saw everything in your world as vibrating threads.  Anything you read about or see in the news is a thread through your world.  As a creator of your Universe, you have the power to remove that thread from your experience.  In doing so, you help to de-energize its strength in the collective.

You can do this with family dysfunctional patterns, removing your participation in its travel through time.  You create the possibility for others to be free of it's effects as well.

Practicing Ho'Oponopono, in this full and encompassing way, declares your independance from the 'ties that bind', the unharmonious cords.

This world is a playground, a fishtank, a model railroad layout, created by Consciousness for the joy and wonder of it.  It is created by Love, and created with Love.  The energy it is manufactured with is Love.

When there is anything that is not-love, it's like poop on the playground.  It muddies the water.  It affects the structural integrity of the model.

As creators of our reality when we see this, we can go "Oops! My bad!"  (An effortless way to say I'm sorry and take ownership).  The poop may not have come out of our physical body, but we can still take a compostable "doggie doo" bag and pick it up (and effortless way to respond).

Love resets the diagram. Love restores the working order.

Thank You appreciates Consciousness beyond the personality level.  Thank U, thank U(niverse), thank You (your Higher Self).

And, thank You for reading this!

Hearing, Having, and Ho'Oponopono

(c) 2010 Joan M. Newcomb

I'm going to try to weave together three themes I've been experiencing the last few weeks.

The first is Ho'Oponopono.  In my last Ezine I mentioned it, along with a link to a site I'd not been to before.  It turns out to be a very good site, that had a very good article about taking 100% for your reality.

Ho'Oponopono is a Hawaiian Shamanistic practice of turning within and releasing 'erroneous thoughts' that contribute to the negative patterns in the world.  It was effectively used by Dr. Ihaleakela Hew Len to treat "incurably insane" patients in a locked ward of a Hawaii State Mental Hospital.  Within two years, the ward was closed because all of the patients either got better and were released, or got better enough to be transferred to a regular ward of the hospital.

It fits into my belief system in many ways.  One simple way is that 'thoughts create things' (to quote Mike Dooley, whom I'm interviewing next week on my Radio Show).  Every thought you think is a filter through which you perceive the world, and a projection you create into the world.  Everyone you come into contact with is/has a 'matching thought' with you.

So if someone calls you up and starts complaining about their work or their love life, somewhere within you is a 'matching mental image picture' otherwise they wouldn't show up in your reality.  Doing Ho'Oponopono is a way of deenergizing that thought from within, which de-energizes it from them, and contributes to de-energizing it within the world.

That's one level of understanding things.  The next level is that this world is Your hologram.  You, as Consciousness, created it down to the smallest detail, including all of the personalities in it (including yourself as one of the cast members).  The building blocks of the hologram can be considered thoughts, or they could be considered pictures, or they could be considered emotions or sensations or pixels.  It's all the same, in the same way that a three-dimensional Pixar film is made up of music and story plot as well as the computer generated images.  Ho'Oponopono is one way of cleaning distortions in the hologram so You can enjoy the creation more clearly.

The thing is, you can't be in resistance to whatever you'd doing Ho'Oponopono for.  You can't act like it's outside of your space or someone else's creation.  You can't judge it nor Yourself for creating it.  You can't use Ho'Oponopono to manipulate the storyplot.  That is, you can't do Ho'Oponopono to make things go the way you want them to.

Ho'Oponopono, like every Truly effective energy technique, is best done with a clear and open mind.  I like to have a sense of amused anticipation, to see what's going to happen but not expect what will happen.  You're 'reclaiming power from your Hologram' without assumptions of what that's going to be like.

What happens for me is that interesting people show up as clients or callers to my show.  Someone who's a burned out healer/counselor who has people owing them money, who has to be encouraged to raise their rates and prioritize themselves first. (I REMEMBER BEING THAT WAY)!

People with under-earning problems who want to argue for their limitations, who can't hear the suggestions I'm giving them for getting unstuck (BEEN THERE DONE THAT)!

Someone who is super-capable and has to do it all alone without any help yet needs assistance moving forward in their business (TOO FAMILIAR)!

One night a week ago, I found myself drifting in and out of sleep and doing Ho'Oponopono every waking moment.  It was a very effective solution to insomnia!  I began feeling waves of Infinite Love as I did it, which is what happens when I'm fully connected to Consciousness.

Which brings up the other part I want tie in, 'hearing and having'.  Havingness is essential to manifestation. It's taking ownership of your creations.  If you can own everything you create, the "good" and the "bad", you can increase your ability to manifest.  Without havingness, an endless parade of your desires can show up on your doorstep and you either don't open the door, disregard the gift, or not water the plant so it dies (to combine a bunch of metaphors).

The hearing part is, you've been told this before.  This information has been out there your whole life, and coming to you in many different ways.  It was there before The Secret DVD first came out.  It was there before Abraham-Hicks and before Seth found their channels.  When did you first hear it?  Have you heard it yet? When you can hear it, you can have it.

I always end my Ezine articles with a suggestion to 'try this for a week and see what happens'.  You don't really have to do anything this week.  Except maybe notice the matching experiences with everyone who shows up.  If you feel motivated to take the next step of releasing that energy from within your space, great.

Just see how your reality completely changes from that first simple step!

Ho'Oponopono to reclaim power from the hologram...

(c) 2009 Joan M. Newcomb

Ho'Oponopono is a Hawaiian shamanic tool for reclaiming power from the morphic field. Although that's not exactly how Joe Vitale described it in his book 'Zero Limits'.

Ho'Oponopono first became known in popular circuits through the internet rumor - actual true story - of Dr. Ihaleakela Hew Len, a psychotherapist assigned to an 'incurable' ward of criminally insane patients in a mental hospital. The place was so bad, plants died there. It had a high turnover rate for doctors and nurses working there. It was a scary place.

Dr. Hew Len never met with his patients, yet within a short time people started getting better. Morale improved. And now the place is closed, because all the patients recovered.

How? He sat with each patient's chart and chanted Ho'Oponopono: "I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you." He didn't chant it for them, but for the part within him that created them.

If you look at this reality as the hologram program You created (you just forgot you were the one standing outside the holodeck talking to the computer), then what Dr. Hew Len was doing was denergizing the part of the program that created the insanity. He did it by turning within, tuning into Himself.

In Busting Loose From The Money Game, Journey To The Infinite, A Path to True Joy and other work by Robert Scheinfeld, he talks about reclaiming power from a 'Phase 2' perspective.

Phase 1 is when you believe the world is real, you're powerless and limited and life happens to you. Phase 2 is when you wake up and realize this world is an illusion, your holographic creation. You acknowledge that You are an Infinite Being, the one that created it. You begin to reclaim power from all the patterns in the morphic field that are uncomfortable.

Scheinfeld created 'The Process' for reclaiming power, which is whenever you feel discomfort, dive into it and declare the Truth about it. That You're an Infinite Being, this is an illusion, and you're reclaiming power from it. Then you appreciate the illusion as a marvellous creation.

There are many ways to reclaim power. In my early Mystery School training, I learned that we are Spirit and we've manifested the body to experience the fun of being in the physical, all the emotions and sensations this world provides that we don't have on the non-physical. Which includes negative emotions and physical discomfort. At Spirit we're enjoying it all, even if the body-personality is griping about it. In Clairvoyant Training we saw everything as pictures rather than patterns, and we learned to denergize the ones that block us from seeing clearly.

So, my fun discovery the other day was to use Ho'Oponopono to reclaim power. When I said, 'I'm sorry, please forgive me. I love you, thank you' as the Infinite Being or Spirit, addressing my body-personality, I noticed a tremendous energy shift.

So whenever I felt uncomfortable, or some memory or topic came up for me, some 'issue', I imagined Me stepping into the situation and addressing me. I'd say 'I'm sorry I created you to have that shitty childhood experience' or 'Please forgive Me for writing that subplot into your story line.' Then I'd say, 'I love you' and I really meant it, I'd feel this wave of compassion similar to what I feel for my kids as they're making their way through life. Then I'd say, 'Thank you in advance' because I'm not certain that the body-personality me has really forgiven me for the shitty childhood or subplot.

You can do this with other people in your hologram, as long as you do it from the perspective that they're actors in your story. You auditioned and cast them for the part. Including whatever you're aware of or reacting to in their character or story line. "I'm sorry" You say to yourself, "for creating that boss or co-worker or family member." "Please forgive me for writing them into your show." "I love you." "Thank you". Oh, and "What a marvellous creation this all is"!

I can tell when energy moves because I start breathing deeper. And shortly after reclaiming power, I usually feel inexplicably happy. Except the explaination is that I'd reclaimed power. The Process does this, too. It's just fun to try different ways. And it was fun to see Me addressing me.

It helps to do them without an agenda, because if you're trying to change, fix or improve something you're judging it. And judging it makes it stick like glue. I suggest doing it with curiousity, to see what happens. Just for the fun of it.

So I invite you to play with this - either using Ho'Oponopono or The Process. And see what happens!! Email me the results, joan@joannewcomb.com I'd love to hear from you!
