Owning Space vs. Claiming Space ©2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC
Years ago, when I taught "psychic meditation", the one lesson I didn't feel confident teaching was "owning space". Intellectually, I understood the concept, but as an empath it was difficult to "own" my space when I felt so many other people's emotions inside me.
Recently I heard someone talking about "claiming space". They were talking about claiming the ability to create wealth. It was appealing, but felt like it missed the mark.
Think about explorers claiming a new country for their nation. Is that land theirs? Claiming feels like taking ownership of something outside of you, something you don't feel like you really have in the first place.
Your space is yours, in the old days I'd say it's your 'God given right', and no one can come into your space without your permission. But the step up from that is that your space is yours, and you as Consciousness have ultimate seniority within it.
Owning space is taking ownership of what is already innately yours. You are Consciousness, infinitely powerful and wise. When you acknowledge this about yourself, you're owning your space.
People have all sorts of reactions to someone owning their own space. They can accuse them of being heartless (when they're simply being neutral), they can become competitive with them (competition is an indicator of where they are not owning their own space and an opportunity for you to own yours).
Owning your own space has nothing to do with anyone else. People often revert to childhood and become rebellious when they're in the process of learning to own space.
Space isn't anything you have to "take back" or "claim". It's inherently yours, and all you need to do is focus within yourself, and own it.
When you do that, reality reorganizes around you. The thing you were seeking or desire, shows up. You're able to have the relationship you've always wanted, because you're in relationship with yourself first. You're able to have the wealth you've always desired, because you're centered in your own source energy (rather than in the space of lack).
This world is one of polarities, dichotomies, and opposites. Our bodies are born into it seemingly weak and helpless. We feel that whatever we need is outside of ourselves.
When you shift your identity from your body and it's personality to yourself as Consciousness, you realize that it is your own essence that is the creative source. When you focus outside of yourself, you're going to experience more lack. When you focus on yourself as Consciousness within, you'll discover a wellspring of untold potential.
Try that for the next week. Take your focus off of your external circumstances, and focus on yourself as Consciousness instead. Tune into the infinite energy within, and own it as yourself. And see what happens!

Density and Effort
©2014 Joan M Newcomb
My husband was telling me a story from work when he paused and said, 'Density... and effort.' It totally summed up the experience and attitude many people working there have.
Life in lower vibrations is heavy, negative, and drama filled.
From that perspective, it takes a lot of effort to get anything done. Nothing ever changes. Why bother trying?
Density and Effortland is filled with obstacles and limitations. You are powerless over them.
Things happen to you. There are no choices.
Likewise, there is no responsibility. It's always someone else's fault. Scapegoats and black sheep abound.
I was thinking about this as I looked at my fish tank this morning. The little fishies were all over the place.
99% of their activity is finding food. It's all eat, or be eaten (we're down to about 11 fry from the original 17 so I'm guessing the ones who are left have been doing the eating)...
Moving through this dense reality is like wading the ocean floor in a deep sea diver's suit. You're at mercy to the currents, sharks can eat you, someone or something can cut off your oxygen supply.
It all feels very "real".
However, unless you're in a war zone or an ICU, it's probably not really life or death. The world isn't going to end.
What is ending, or disintegrating, are old ways of being and interacting. If you've been carrying on the family traditions (including the ways of behaving), these changes may even be threatening to you.
You may be mad at others for being happy, they're shining the light of Truth into your eyes. It shows where you are not (happy or fulfilled).
Likewise, you may be mad at others for perpetuating the same stuck patterns you've been mired in. Mirrors can be uncomfortable.
Sometimes we stay in effort so as not to abandon our friends and loved ones. Who are we to be free?
Effortlessness isn't geographical, you can be amongst your family and still be lighthearted. You can observe but not participate in their kind of crazy.
Shifting your perspective to 'outside the fishtank' doesn't mean you have to leave the fishtank, although sometimes that happens. When you no longer match the people around you, other opportunities arise.
You don't get out of fishtank mentality by fighting the other fish, or trying to get them to change. You can talk until you're blue in the face. They won't get it (until they get it).
Change yourself, change your attitude, disengage, detach. Step back, take your focus off them, drop down into your own heart, your own inner reality.
It may feel like a risk, it may feel like you'll lose everything familiar, but in truth you're only losing what didn't fit in the first place. And you'll gain YOU, your inner power, your own uniqueness, which nothing and no one can take away.
For the next week, notice your focus. If it's on crazy and drama, look away. It's not being in denial, it's choosing to change the channel. Get off Facebook, turn off Twitter, drop the hooks and temptation.
It's all about you and You.
For the next 7 days, focus on your relationship with You, and see what happens!

The Pow in Power
The Pow in Power ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb
Years ago, when I was in my 20's, I got into a conversation with an old man (who must have been in his 40's). I was taking a women's meditation class, and I said to him, 'women have twice as much energy as men'!
He responded with a story about how he'd been able to push someone across the room with the force of energy from his hands.
And there you have it.
What I'd learned in my class was that female bodies generate twice as much energy as men. They're biologically programmed to create entire other bodies.
He'd heard it as twice a powerful, and told a story of how he was able to exert external power.
Two different perspectives on how to use energy.
Women can create bodies from within their bodies, for another being. There's a natural merging that occurs for a few years, while the being figures out how to operate the new body. But at some point that being gets to move forward without help.
Energy held within your own space (regardless of the gender of your body) is more energetically powerful than energy focused outside your space, into someone else's space.
It's easy to think that someone with external influence is more powerful. Someone who is very loud, will seem to have control over the environment. People who 'throw energy' can appear powerful when you're on the receiving end of their whack.
Inner power is often not recognized by those involved with external power games. It appears as a soft power.
Inner power is strength and stability. It is having your own authority and seniority around those playing games.
It is holding your own power while giving space to others going through difficult times, in "weakened" positions.
Sometimes the most powerful action is not using your power at all.
Things to think about as we move forward into this New Year and time.
