The Immense Power of Powerlessness

The Immense Power of Powerlessness ©2019 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

This game of Life in the physical realm is an amazing creation. It’s a playing field of polarities, where often the opposite is true. When I try to explain advanced spiritual concepts to people, I constantly find I’m contradicting myself.

Whether we’re conscious of it or not, we are always engaging with the unseen. When you understand a few basic principles, it becomes much easier to navigate this reality.

The core concept is power, what it is, what is it’s source, and how to use it. People think of power as something really big, and something outside of themselves. They assign it values, like good and bad. Powerful people are invariably bad. They dominate weak people, who are the rest of us, and we’re good, even though it’s bad to be weak. The rest of us are powerless, we can’t use power, that would make us bad. You can see the insanity of this line of thinking.

With this mindset, we’re constantly giving power to other things, because everything is more powerful than we are. And then we can’t change, because everything outside ourselves is in control, so we have to try to change everything (and everyone) to fix our reality.

The truth is, power is simply energy and focus, and the real source of it is within each one of us. When you stop focusing on the thing you’ve been giving the most power to, you become free of it.

People think that admitting powerlessness over something (or someone), is surrendering to their power. However, surrendering is simply ceasing resistance. That can look like giving up, but what you’re actually doing is not engaging with that energy pattern any more.

Many years ago I was in a relationship with a covert drug addict. I didn’t know they were using, but the energy in the house felt like static chaos. And trying to bring love into the situation was like pouring water into sand. In releasing my focus on trying to fix the situation actually gave them the space to release their focus on the things they’d given their power to.

This applies to other things as well. Recently I’ve been helping people with their finances, and I notice that debt is like a vacuum. It sucks prosperity out of your creations. When people stop using credit cards, their abundance increases.

Saying you’re powerless over people, places, and things isn’t saying you’re weak, or out of control. Ironically, you feel out of control when you’re focus is on trying to control people, places, and things!

The source of power is within you. It may not feel powerful, because we think of power as something with weight and density. In actuality, it feels expansive and light.  Empowerment feels normal because it's who you are. When you shift your focus to yourself as Consciousness, you access immense power. The wellspring of all creation is within you.

Reality, Insanity, and Truth

Reality, Insanity and Truth ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

Maybe this blog post should be entitled arguing with reality. The news this week was insane. Stories of breastfeeding babies being torn away from their immigrant mothers, thousands of children being held in dog pens in warehouses; I hit bottom.

I’ve struggled to observe it all from neutral. From the perspective of greater Consciousness, what is really going on? Everyone at their essence is infinite and immensely powerful. There is greater Light coming into the world, it is illuminating the darkness, but it also means the darkness is going away.

Yeah, fuck that shit. It was already pretty bad but now toddlers and infants, that’s over the line.

What’s in the process of disintegrating is all the old power structures, and all the old attitudes that limit or define anyone as more than or less than. We’re all Consciousness, we’re all omnipotent.

And those who cling to those old ways of being are experiencing the most discomfort, because their reality is dissipating. They’re the ones freaking out and going insane.

Where’s the last bastion of this paradigm? Washington, DC, my home town. So what we’re seeing are extreme behaviors, extreme actions, being taken to maintain the illusion of power. And it seems so destructive, because it is. It’s reflecting the distruction they’re feeling within.

You know, I don’t really care what the higher reasons are. I just want it to stop NOW.

This world is a marvelously complex creation of Consciousness, with an endless supply of storylines. We are all Consciousness, we are all God Within. Other people are other aspects of Consciousness. People aren’t our reflections, they're real people not just mirrors or Westworld characters. But what we see or feel is usually in ourselves. If there wasn't a matching resonance, we wouldn't notice it or they wouldn't be there.

So even uncomfortable situations we've attracted, or we observe, are an indicator of what is shifting or changing within us.

SO WHAT’S GOING ON INSIDE? Everything within me that reacts to things that are unjust, that wants to fight against white male dominance, has also been disempowering myself. Where I have been restricting my own freedom?

The old paradigm was that dominance was power, and yet it's energetically weak. Power outside is the least powerful. Trying to control or change other people, whether it's trying to keep them out of the country or economically or educationally challenged, is the actions of those who don't feel strong themselves. And yet, trying to fight them, to control or change them, puts us into a weak position, it's using the same energy to create a different outcome.

Operating at a higher level of Consciousness, the rules are different. You can’t manifest by manipulating the hologram. You can only change by shifting from within, shifting yourself.

So how do we stop this insanity? Because if I withdraw (ever fiber of my being wants to go back to being a mystic in the woods), if I turn of Twitter (my source of on-the-ground news, and hence my window into the madness in the world), am I not being in denial? Am I turning a blind eye to people who need help?

I CAN’T DRIVE TO TEXAS AND THROW THEM IN A MINI VAN. And I don't speak Spanish, so I can't go up to SeaTac and help the parents (that have been brought to Washington State for some bizarre reason).

I can participate in a General Strike, as an introvert I don't go on marches and gave up on phone calls but I can protest with my wallet.

But really, as a Mystic, I can shift the energy within, I can collapse the internal power structures, I can step into a parallel universe where this is unfolding differently. I can two-point to where the outcome is already different.

When I relax, step back from the story, I can see and feel the Truth. I'm in agreement with what is (okay, I'm getting there).

I invite everyone to do this for themselves. Because if we collectively reclaim our power, this can instantly change.

I'm excited to see what happens!

(If you're new to my work and want to know how to do these things, read more of my blog and go to my website for coaching on Consciousness Techniques).

Mastering the new Consciousness.

Mastering the new Consciousness  ©2017 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

We have already shifted to a new level of Consciousness, it's just that not all of our bodies and personalities have come up to speed.

For one thing, reality looks the same. For another thing, reality feels completely different.

And in this new reality, many old paradigms no longer work.

Like when you upgrade your operating system, you have to upgrade much of your software.

In fact, most of the old ways of operating are now defunct. You can't apply the old rules of power in this new reality. Your energetic engine has changed. Gasoline doesn't work in your Tesla.

Your ego may value being an expert. It may value being the know it all, having all the answers, being better than and smarter than.

Yet in this new Consciousness, approaching things with a bigger's mind is far more powerful. All the answers are available to you, you just don't have to carry it around in your hard drive any more.

Power looks different as Consciousness. It's inner power. It has clarity and a sense of well being.

There isn't any competitive energy, because there's the awareness that *everyone* is whole, capable, and Conscious.

Everyone, at their core, is Consciousness. Everyone is equally powerful. As we each grow in this awareness, there is more interconnectedness. There's more teamwork. There's networking. There's interdependence and independence at the same time.

Having more stuff doesn't carry any weight in this new awareness. In fact, heaviness has no place here. There's no density nor effort.

At some point of development, manifestation becomes instantaneous. And, the urge to manifest, the urgency, is gone. It's all about creativity. This world is a fun playground.

Conscious evolution happens in waves, there's always individuals on the leading edge, bringing new information into form.

If you're reading this, you're one of them. You wouldn't be drawn to this article if you weren't.

While the rest are coming up to speed, it may feel lonely at first. It may feel like people don't understand you or where you are at. That's just the old patterns playing out, dissipating.

If you notice anything that "makes you feel" frustrated, powerful, reactive, rebellious, resentful, resistant - you are bumping up against old paradigm patterns.

Nothing is more powerful than You. That becomes apparent when you shift your perspective to seeing yourself *as* Consciousness, creating your reality, through this physical form, in this hologram, this game called life on this playground called earth.

You don't have to go out there to change, fix or manipulate anything. As you navigate as Consciousness, reality starts to reorganize around you.

That doesn't mean you can't choose to respond to what is showing up in your reality. Maybe you feel like making a phone call and expressing your views or requesting an action. Maybe you feel like going out to stand or walk with people who share your interests.

But you're coming from an empowered space, and responding to what is. It feels different to engage in the world this way.

Mastering the new Consciousness means acquiring proficiency with the new skills of navigating reality that is manifesting with a higher vibrational frequency than we've ever experienced before.

Really, it's Consciousness mastering the new physical reality.

We're going from wading at the bottom of the ocean, where our bodies felt like deep sea divers suits, to not-quite-astronauts in zero gravity on the space station. In zero gravity, force propels things away from you, or you away from what you're going for. It's a more subtle way of moving through the world.

As you move through your world this week, notice what is different. Take the time to shift your awareness and view things differently. Make different choices and responses.

Try this for the next seven days, and see how your life transforms!

Acceptance Is Not Surrender, Ceding or Giving In

Acceptance Is Not Surrender, Ceding or Giving In ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

There's a popular prayer that starts by asking for the serenity to accept the things you cannot change.
It's a powerful statement. You are accepting what is, but not agreeing to it.

In accepting the situation, you are acknowledging the reality of it. You are not in denial that it is happening, you are not avoiding the reality. You are actually standing in your own power, while being powerless over other's behavior or external circumstances.

Acceptance allows you to take action, to respond rather than react. You can make better choices when you're not reacting.

Now, there's also an aspect of Surrender that doesn't mean ceding your power, or giving in. It means you are not resisting the dominating energy. When you resist, you become rigid, you get stuck. You actually attract what you're resisting.  In non-resistance, the negative energy passes through. You can weave around it. It dissipates.

A few years ago I was in a situation that was intolerable. I was powerless over the outcome. I was powerless over other people's behavior.

Others might have said, but you could have talked to them about it. This was your opportunity to speak out.

I did not waste energy fighting it or trying to change them. I placed principles before personalities. I focused on the bigger picture. I remained in integrity with my core values.

I was there to do something no one else could do, I brought my awareness of Consciousness to the situation. What unfolded was greater than what anyone there could acknowledge.

And so it is.

You may be going home for the holidays and dreading becoming enmeshed in the dysfunctional family patterns. You might be avoiding certain relatives because of painful memories.

You could be distracted by the news, by the current insanity in politics. You could be outraged by people's refusal to be involved, or general unconsciousness.

You cannot change, fix, or manipulate the world outside yourself without getting entangled in it. You can detach, by stepping back emotionally.

You can accept that most people aren't operating at optimal awareness. Most people are playing out invisible programming.

When you can see that and not resist it, you reclaim your energy from it.

You start to see the world through a different lens. You might actually be amused by it.

We have been through dark times before. There is too much light in the world nowadays.

The sun is more powerful than the night.

Stand in your own sunlight, shine in your own truth, and see how that transforms your life!

Is Resistance Futile?

Is Resistance Futile? ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

I woke this morning with the lyrics to "Do You Hear The People Sing" from Les Mis going through my head, and felt it was a commentary on the prevelant feeling throughout the world at this time.

"Do you hear the people sing? It is the song of angry men. It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again..."

People are angry. People are protesting. People are grieving. People are rebelling.

People are being called to action. They are speaking out. They are taking stands.
Aikido July 2002 Chateau de Clairvans, Gerard Blaze et Dominique

Then I remembered the scene in Les Mis, during the French Revolution, working class people manning the barricades. And they all got shot.

Is resistance futile? Do the big guys always win? Do our votes really count? Are our voices heard?

The energy of resistance usually attracts what you don't want. What you resist, persists. So from that perspective, resistance is futile. It perpetuates you in the reality that what you're resisting has power over you, is dominating you.

However, the energy of anger propels you out of the paralysis of fear. So if you are fighting something, that energy gives you the strength to take action and make changes.

The strongest stance, energetically, is non-resistance. That doesn't mean that you accept the unacceptable. But it means you can't be bullied or intimidated or triggered by whatever the other side does. You stand in your own power and negativity passes through without sticking.

Some forms of martial arts use non resistance to their advantage. When an opponent attacks, they respond in such a way that uses their energy against them. They step aside and the attacker falls over by their own force.

How can we possibly be non resistant to all the insanity going on right now? Wouldn't that be staying in our 'bubble' of privilege, or being in denial?

Non resistance doesn't mean not doing anything. It means to respond rather than react. It means standing back from all the noise and make conscious choices before taking action.

You can have strong feelings about things and still respond with non-resistance.

Bullies thrive on victims. Narcissists thrive on attention, even negative attention. Dominators aim to disempower people by getting them riled up and off balance.

We are all more powerful than we know. What is happening on the planet is that greater Consciousness is coming into form. That means your body is able to hold YOU, as Greater Consciousness, more than ever before.

Shift your perspective to your inner Essence and you will regain your balance.

Power Games

Power Games ©2016 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

Again, it seems, we're collectively going through a seismic shift. Momentous changes are happening. People are being rocked to their core. There are strong reactions on one side or another.

What the heck is going on? And what can we do about it?

There's an increase Consciousness happening. We know that. It's been happening, it continues to happen, why does it feel like such a big, frickin' deal right now?
Tesla Coil - photo credit Airarcs

As we each experience an expansion of our vibration coming into form, we become more sensitive and aware.  Some of us are experiencing our psychic abilities going through the roof. We're having dreams that turn out to be premonitions, we're thinking of people and then they show up in our lives, we even feel more telepathic and imagine we're going nuts.

What's been happening on an unseen level is our energy bodies are being upgraded. Some try to explain this as our DNA changing. I see us going from gasoline powered to hybrid to Tesla.

We're used to gasoline power - it feels dense, it has a residue. Some of us a currently hybrids, we have moments of effortlessness, mixed with sluggishness. Fasten your seatbelts when you wake up one morning to find your vehicle is Tesla powered.

The old power games aren't working in the world. They are the familiar forms of power. Dominance and manipulation. Physical strength, and mental acuity. Material wealth. If you're a narcissistic bully billionaire, people are going to think you're very powerful. In reality, you're the least powerful of all.

However, the old powerless games aren't working, either. Resistance, victimhood, self-pity, never got you what you wanted in the first place, but are especially setting folks back now.

We've been through some powerful movements, Occupy Wall Street, that have shone light on the old paradigms, and protests seem to create change in the moment. But when you look closely at them, they are merely the opposite of what they resist. They reflect the illusion of powerlessness.

We're being called to stand up and own our power. To stand senior within our own space. To act empowered. To be our own authority.

Consciousness is infinitely powerful. And we are Consciousness. As Consciousness comes more into form, we feel our omniscience within us. Anything that isn't in alignment with our magnificence, is going to feel uncomfortable. Is going to be reflected in the world around us.

The opportunity is arising for many of us to de-energize our old power games. We're revisiting old issues that use to disempower us. It does not mean you are stepping backwards. It's a chance to behave differently with these issues.

Nothing outside of you is more powerful than you. If you admit that you are powerless over people. places, and things, it really means you have take your focus off them. You've withdrawn your power from them. You've taken your power back from the illusion. You've reclaimed power from the story you have been playing in.

Real power, like a Tesla engine, doesn't feel loud or heavy. It is effortless, clear, and fast. It changes you, or you change yourself, instantaneously. It does not change others. They can change or not change themselves. If you perceive others changing, it's because you have shifted yourself into a reality where they are different. It's you walking off of one sound stage and onto another. The cast looks the same but the outcome is different.

Whatever is happening in the outside world does not affect your internal power.  Even if you feel powerless, even if your storyline says you have no measurements of power, as Essence you are Consciousness and therefore infinitely powerful. As Essence you transcend time and space. As Consciousness you are creating everything in your reality down to the smallest detail. Even feeling powerless.

Your body and your personality contain all sorts of beliefs and concepts that aren't true. When you bring your higher frequency into your body, it can feel like it's dying. Your concepts are dying, but you are. Things you've held onto that are lower, denser, energy, are disintegrating. It feels like your personality is falling apart when these things disappear.

When you get quiet, when you take deep breaths, you realize that what feels ungrounded, what feels unsettled, is actually immense freedom. You are bringing freedom into your life, into your storyline. It's what you're really asking for when you're pray, or play with manifesting. You're asking for financial freedom, you're asking for expansion of money, or love. Consciousness is the ultimate expansion. Consciousness *is* love. Consciousness *is* abundance and prosperity. *You* are Consciousness, so you are all these things.

When you relax into your life, the things you've been asking for show up. They spontaneously happen, or you realize they've been in your life all along. You don't have to do anything, you just have to have them, appreciate, recognize, acknowledge them.

You already are all the things you want.

Stop trying to drive your life as if it's a diesel powered engine. You don't need sixteen gears to get up a steep hill. You just press a button and there you are.  Actually, you just touch the point where you feel you are now, and touch the point to where you want to be, and collapse the wave between them.

It's a new way of navigating. It's a new power game.

Let this sink in and see what happens!

Do You Feel Like An Imposter? (Don't We All)?

Do You Feel Like An Imposter? (Don't We All)? ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb

Have you ever felt like you didn't belong, or were just "faking it until you make it"? Maybe you were promoted at work, or won a prize, something you felt absolutely certain that you didn't deserve.

We've all been there, and some of the most high-achieving of us feel it more than others. Will Smith confessed on a talk show that he wakes up in the middle of the night with anxiety. I've known independently wealthy people who need to have enough money for an entire year in their bank account, when someone else feels financially confident with a monthly paycheck.
Huntley Gordon from a scene still for the 1918 Vitagraph silent drama The Beloved Imposter
The Beloved Imposter

If you grew up in a dysfunctional family, you may have felt uncomfortable when you started school. All the other kids seemed to have normal parents.  Or you may have been the only one in your family to break out of the restrictive patterns, they may have felt something was wrong with you, because you were the only one to not end up in jail, but graduated high school and went to college.

As you evolve as Consciousness, embodying more of your Essential Energy, you start to feel expansive and wonderful. It feels so heady, it may make you question if this is real. You're so used to feeling less than, there must be something wrong with you if you feel more than!

Anita Moorjani had an out of body experience when she was dying of cancer. Her organs had shut down and the doctor told her husband she had 'hours' to live. Instead, she woke up, and within a week all her tumors had disappeared (they insisted on putting her through chemotherapy 'just in case').  She came back in with the awareness that we are Magnificent, and that her cancer was caused by her own fears.

Magnificent is a great description for how it feels as Consciousness. I've experienced it in body and I've felt expansive, limited, and immense Love. It's powerful as in empowering or potent, but not dominating. It's an awareness that I'm loved and special, and you are, too.

We feel like an imposter when our insides don't match our outsides.  And, our insides DON'T match our outsides!! Our body is limited, it is a dense collection of vibrating atoms, within a collection of dense patterns, within this three-D full immersion Wii game.  WE are Consciousness, unlimited, beyond time and space. Our insides is vaster than our outer appearance.

And it's okay. This planet of Density and Effort is meant to be dichotomous. It is a planet of opposites.  We come here to feel all the feelings, which include discomfort, pain, sadness, grief as well as ecstacy and joy and happiness and love.

If you can just hold that inner awareness, that inner knowing, of who You truly are, you can effortlessly navigate the rockiest of paths or the most unfortunate circumstances.

Relax into your knowingness, and see what happens. Try this for seven days and your world will transform!

What do you people WANT?!?

What do you people WANT?!? ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb

A couple months ago I organized an event on Vashon Island, to serve a small group there.  I was excited because I was bringing people from Seattle to help and I felt it would be a big support for the islanders.

Everyone had agreed on the day, and I had to jump through a few hoops to reach out to the Seattle folks, who essentially had to take 6 hours out of their day, plus ferry fares, to do 2 hours of community outreach. I do this nearly every Saturday, coming from Tacoma, but I lived on Vashon for nearly 30 years, so it's a different experience for me.
What we think we need

It turned out to be a wonderful experience, the Seattle folks were enchanted by the island, which was lovely to see.

However, half the folks on the island didn't show up. One person, eager for the support, came from Gig Harbor, to receive the information.

What happened?

Maybe they didn't want it? Maybe they didn't know what they were missing. Clearly, it was my idea (but not their idea) to help move them forward.

One of the Seattleites said, "Maybe they don't know what they're missing. Maybe when they want it bad enough, they'll come to Seattle for it."

Yeah, maybe. I was trying to establish a support group on Vashon, so I felt the event needed to happen on Vashon. Which was entirely my agenda.

Maybe the folks on Vashon need to learn to go to Seattle (or Tacoma) for support; it's what I had to do when I got started.

But here's the bigger picture: when you are trying to achieve your goals, when you are going for what you really want, shit comes up.

You get scared, you get mad, you get resistant, you get judgemental, you get critical. You hide, you space it out, you oversleep, you overschedule. You tell yourself stories about what's going on, about yourself, about others.  You ______ (Fill in the blank).

In short, everything that's keeping you from getting what you want.

You may be so overwhelmed, you don't even *know* what you really need. If you are struggling with basic life issues, you may not have enough clarity to have a clear picture of what you truly want.

When you're stuck on the hamster wheel, all you can think about is getting off the wheel. You can't imagine what's possible for you.

Of course, you may want to get off the hamster wheel and rest!  But the hamster wheel has exercised your muscles to take you forward on your life (it just won't require as much effort).

Death and Taxes

Death and Taxes ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb

"In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."  Benjamin Franklin

This may be a little premature (for both topics), but I was having a conversation with Janet, my radio show co-host about recording a show in April. She thought it could be about money, as it is tax time in the U.S. 'People are feeling taxed' she said. 'What is taxing you, how are you feeling taxed?'

And I immediately thought, 'in paying taxes I am expressing appreciation for all that the taxes are going to support!'  I like roads, and school, and healthcare, and retirement. And I may not like supporting warfare, I don't mind supporting the troups. Military spending includes supporting military families.
Two Tax Collectors, Marinus van Reymerswaele

We think of taxes as something bigger than ourselves (the Government) taking something away from us. Or we count on tax returns to give something to us. We're little, they're big.

And from the perspective of Consciousness, it's all a creation.  As the greater aspect of ourSelf, we create the reality of taxes.

If we feel like it's something happening to us, we're reacting as our body/personality.  We feel powerless, less capable, something bigger than us has control.

Stepping up to the awareness as Consciousness, we feel amused, we are in total agreement with whatever is occurring, we see the interconnectedness of it all.

As Consciousness we feel ownership, and authority.  Nothing is more powerful (and nothing is less).  There's no good nor bad as Consciousness, there's no ethics, so it's all good.  There is ultimate acceptance of what is.

"The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn't get worse everytime Congress meets."  Will Rogers

As Consciousness we've created this wonderful world of opposites and oppositions.  It's not accurate to say this is all an illusion, because it invalidates the very real, feeling experience we're having.  It's too easy to try to detach by being in denial and trying not to feel.  But then we miss the point of being here.

Taxes aren't certain, you can live without taxes.  Death may be an inevitability for the body but it's timing isn't certain.  Perhaps the biggest illusion is death.

We react to death, we feel the absence of the deceased's physical presence, but it's our grief that keeps us from sensing the aspect of them that's still alive.

If we miss someone, we may actually be experiencing what Bryon Katie calls a visitation.  They come to mind because they're there.  It triggers our body, because it feels the absence.  Bodies don't like death because they're not going to make it out of this lifetime alive.  But we will.

Consciousness doesn't die.  And that is certain.

Dissolving Depression

Dissolving Depression ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb

For many people, February is a tough month.  In the northern hemisphere, Winter is dragging on, and the lack of warmth and sunshine has been taking it's toll.  The holidays are over, although Valentine's Day is coming up, which brings up relationship issues.  And many of us are mourning losses.  People seem to pass during the holidays, the "veil" is thinner, we feel and miss our deceased loved ones more.

Depression is a soggy, wet, blanket, blocking our body/personality's awareness and receptivity to Us as Consciousness.  When you are under it, you feel powerless.  People, places, things have more control over your reality than you do.

I struggled with depression from the time I was twelve until I was thirty-five. When I left my first marriage, I was suicidally depressed. As a single parent, I made decisions which resulted in 'staying small' and living in poverty, so I wouldn't tip over the edge.

During those years I tried a number of solutions.  I saw therapists,  I was given antidepressants, I went to support groups, and as an adult I medicated myself with St. John's Wort and Kava Kava.

What created the ultimate turnaround was noticing my thoughts.  I realized that I spent most of my day imaging myself talking to people about how terrible life was.  I started noticing when I was doing it (whenever I was driving, when I'd fall asleep at night) and I would figuratively grab my ears and redirect my thoughts.   I'd reframe it to all the good things that were happening, or set intentions for good things to happen!

It was challenging to do at first, but within two weeks I lifted out of that depression, that I hadn't known I was in, that had been going on for years.

Now, if you are deeply, darkly depressed, don't try to do this on your own.  Reach out, get help.  Depression affects (and is affected by) brain chemistry.  Although positive thinking rewires your brain, creates new neuropathways, you may need medical help to get to the point of treating yourself.

All of this is ground level stuff, body/personality issues.  It's the body/personality that feels depressed.  Consciousness is light.  Consciousness is always joyous.  YOU are Consciousness, therefore your Essential Self is always happy.

Your body/personality is how You experience life here on playground Earth.  When you're too bogged down in the mud, you feel disconnected to the Essence of who you really are.

Body/personalities are happier when You are in the driver's seat.  Meditation helps you clear, anchor and center, but if you're depressed or in emotional pain, it's impossible to sit still and focus.  I found walking and reciting affirmations helpful when I struggling.

Shift your perspective from being the body/personality, where things are happening to you, to being Consciousness, the Creator of your reality.

Notice I said 'creator' not 'controller'.  Controlling your reality implies an outside focus, trying to manipulate, change, or even keep your external reality the same.

We create our reality from within.  Our thoughts create our reality (you can think of them as projections, but I also find them energetic building blocks), but the impulses emanates from within.

Besides consciously changing your thoughts, here's a simple exercise for dissolving depression:
Part 1 is to imagine a Gold Sun above your head, bring it's sunlight into your body and surround yourself in a bubble of gold.  Part 2 is to imagine that same gold energy emanating from within you to outside you. Surround yourself with gold that generates from within.

You can visualize it as the color gold, or feel it as warm sunshine, or imagine it as solar energy to generate your system.

You can play with this in different ways.  You can imagine a gold grid dissolving depression patterns.   You can imagine this gold energy blessing your path.

Try this for the next 7 days and see what happens!

I've been playing with energy with a renewed focus, taking old techniques and 'upgrading' them.  The results are noticeable.  I've been filled with a sense of expansiveness and well-being, and prosperity and abundance is flowing into my lift in unexpected ways.

Whenever you increase light, it illuminates hidden things. Issues rise to the surface, in the process of being cleared out.

One showed up recently in the form of another person, who began having some extreme reactions to  me.  It was crazy making, until I stepped back and brought Consciousness to the situation.  I scanned all my immediate relationships, my husband, sons, friends, clients, my co-host, my business mentors, and those I mentor. All are going well. Except this one individual.

First I tried acting as if nothing was wrong, just in case I was misreading the energy.  That revealed that something was, indeed, amiss.  I talked about it with my mentors, I talked about it with the Universe (you could call this praying).  All of this brought the issue to light, but wasn't clearing it.  I really couldn't figure out how this was going to resolve peacefully.

The great thing about bringing anything to Consciousness is that you don't have to know how.  It unfolds more perfectly than you could imagine.

As I'm writing, I'm realizing that there's a difference between becoming aware of something, and bringing Consciousness into it.  Shining light on something illuminates it, in doing so can make it more extreme (as it's out in the open).  Bringing Consciousness, transforms or disperses it.

What has revealed and is sorting out was distortions and drama and dysfunctional patterns, we each grew up with or encountered in our adult lives,  but not games that I play or choose to engage with any more.  I stayed in integrity,  I stayed aligned, and I continue bring Consciousness into the situation, we're actually becoming friends!

Consciousness does that.  It reveals our similarities as well as our differences.

The other situation that's arisen was an issue that wasn't mine on the surface, but one that I've contributed to.  Rather than power games with individuals, it's power games with corporations.  Corporations are great projections of power, and bring up the illusion of powerlessness in ourselves - they're so big, we're so small.  Bringing Consciousness to this is revealing a simple solution.  It's still not my action to take, but one I provide support for.  As I write, I feel there's still some truths to be revealed.  It's still in the process of unfolding.

So the energies I've been playing with are ~ evolutionary gold and green, waterfall abundance and ionized air, and miracles.  I've been playing with directionals.  You can bring these energies into the top of your head and into your body and energy space.  You can also generate these energies from within, bringing them up and out.  And, you can manifest these energies from within.  Chakras are reference points, vortexes and portals from outside the hologram.  You can instantly transport, manifest or replicate with them.

And I'm discovering that Consciousness doesn't exactly have light.  It's a bigger magnification.  It's more clarify of focus.  It's not as glaring as shining a spotlight on something, which then means something is light or dark, in the spotlight or hidden.  Consciousness brings clarity, neutrality, and allows patterns to dissipate or transform.

Consciousness doesn't really come from anywhere, although initially I thought it was outside-in.  Again with the directionals.  Outside-in, inside-out, or - just is.  It's in the core of every atom and molecule.  It's Sentience.

You can play with this within yourself, and with feelings that arise.  You will notice that not every emotion is really yours, and any story told about it isn't true.  Consciousness disperses them like the warmth of the sun (rather than sunlight) clears clouds.

Play with any or all of this, this week, and see what happens!

How To Hold Your Own During The Holidays

How To Hold Your Own During The Holidays ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb

It's that time of year again. We're heading into the time of family gatherings. We're being inundated with ads, movies, and shop windows filled with gifts and expectations.

When you visit with relatives, everyone reverts to old behavior patterns. No matter how much therapy you've had, it's hard not to fall into the familiar scripts.  How do you not match the prevalent energy level?

Perhaps you don't have family and are happily on your own. How do you convince well-meaning observers that you're a healthy, well-adjusted person who happens to be spouse-and-child-free?

How do you hold your own during the holidays?

We cover a lot of these issues on our November 5th radio show including some helpful Consciousness tools.  I thought I'd add a couple more here.

The Bug-Zapper:  Imagine yourself surrounded by iridescent blue light, just like those electronic devices that hang outside your back door, keeping flying insects from entering the house.  Any negative thoughts or projections that come at you from the outside gets instantly zapped.  However, it also neutralizes any negative thoughts or projections from *inside* as well!  I used this at a wedding last year and it felt wonderful!!

Different Colors: When you walk into a home or a party you can feel the prevalent energy of the place.  One way to not be either raised up to their level of frenzy or brought down to their level of gloom, is to be a 1/2 above the energy.  Imagine what that vibration would be if it were a color (some people hear or feel it) and let yourself be a half step lighter.  You won't be too out of sync, but enough to keep your own sense of self!

Doorways and Portals: Every door or archway can step you into a different Universe, as effortlessly as stepping into different movies at a multiplex or different soundstages in Hollywood.  Just by getting up to go to the restroom, you shifted realities in several ways.  By the time you return you can be in an entirely different scenario!  Your family still looks the same, but the atmosphere can be completely different.

All of these tools work best when done playfully, from a space of amusement and fun.  Try these out and see what happens!

The Pow in Power

The Pow in Power ©2014 Joan M. Newcomb

Years ago, when I was in my 20's, I got into a conversation with an old man (who must have been in his 40's).  I was taking a women's meditation class, and I said to him, 'women have twice as much energy as men'!

He responded with a story about how he'd been able to push someone across the room with the force of energy from his hands.

And there you have it.

What I'd learned in my class was that female bodies generate twice as much energy as men.  They're biologically programmed to create entire other bodies.

He'd heard it as twice a powerful, and told a story of how he was able to exert external power.

Two different perspectives on how to use energy.

Women can create bodies from within their bodies, for another being.  There's a natural merging that occurs for a few years, while the being figures out how to operate the new body.  But at some point that being gets to move forward without help.

Energy held within your own space (regardless of the gender of your body) is more energetically powerful than energy focused outside your space, into someone else's space.

It's easy to think that someone with external influence is more powerful.  Someone who is very loud, will seem to have control over the environment.  People who 'throw energy' can appear powerful when you're on the receiving end of their whack.

Inner power is often not recognized by those involved with external power games.  It appears as a soft power.

Inner power is strength and stability.  It is having your own authority and seniority around those playing games.

It is holding your own power while giving space to others going through difficult times, in "weakened" positions.

Sometimes the most powerful action is not using your power at all.

Things to think about as we move forward into this New Year and time.

How Powerful are you?

©2008 Joan M. Newcomb

"Power" is a charged word, and people have a powerful reaction to it! How do you react to the word Power? How do you react to the word Powerful? Where in your body do you feel the response?

Power is simply energy plus information. When you think of someone who is powerful, who comes to mind? Better yet, if you placed Donald Trump and the Dalai Lama side by side, whom would you believe to be the most powerful?

I was talking to someone the other day about this because every time they kiss their wife they start burping! This is a great thing, I said, because it means you're opening your third chakra! Kissing your wife is an empowering feeling to you!

Your third chakra is located in your solar plexus, the area of your stomach and diaphragm. It's the area of energy distribution throughout the body. Does your body run like a Semi-Truck or like a Mini Cooper? It's also the area of Will - both your own inner Will and your ability to connect with the Higher Will. So, in essence, it's your power center. When you burp, you're releasing energy from your third chakra (so it's a good thing)!

The traditional model of being powerful is to have power over others or power outside oneself. To dominate or influence. However, if you put your attention, and hence your energy, outside of your space (your own energetic boundaries), you're depleting yourself. It's like sending all your troops overseas and not leaving anyone home to manage things. (Interesting thought, given the state of the US right now...)

The other way is to be empowered, to come from a strong center, to be internally aligned with a Higher Power. It's knowing that within you have a wellspring of Source, and coming from that place you can never be depleted. And, interestingly, you never *feel* powerless, when connected inwardly this way.

Given those two definitions, back to our original question: who is more powerful - Donald Trump or the Dalai Lama?

We've all grown up with lots of messages about Power, and about our own Power. Being a helpless baby dependent on an adult for our every need, we start collecting impressions about power from the moment we're born! Our family passes on their concepts about power, and our culture and society does as well. Is power good or bad? Is it okay for you to be powerful and in what way? If you're male, you'll have gotten one impression, if you're female, you'll have gotten another. If you grew up in the 50's you'll have one set of expectations, if you came of age in the 70's or 80's they'll likely be completely different. If you grew up in another country or parents were from a another culture, then you'll have inner pictures that may contradict the society you're in now.

The way to discover your own power is to reclaim energy from all of these impressions. This can be a full-time job that could take forever, but there's no time like the present to get started! Also, you may find that once you begin taking your energy back, after a few 'denergized pictures' a whole section may dissipate. I liken it to having a forest of limiting beliefs -- you work on a few trees and suddenly the forest disappears.

How to reclaim power? There are a variety of ways. If you read my last Mystic Musings -- you can ground and release the concept (or memory or image) down your grounding. You don't even have to know what it is, but just imagine releasing bags of trash (or recycling) down your grounding to the center of the earth. The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) works directly on individual pictures and is very effective (go to www.emofree.com for more info). Neuro-Linguistic Programming www.nlp.org, rapid eye technology www.rapideyetechnology, all work to release subconscious blocks as well.

Once you start, it can be exhilarating. Having your own energy within your own space is the most wonderful feeling in the world! So why not get started NOW?
