Perfectly Imperfect

Perfectly Imperfect ©2015 Joan M. Newcomb

This afternoon I met with two other people at a bank, to transfer over being Treasurer of a local group in Tacoma to one of them.  One was more than relieved to give up the position, one was chomping at the bit to take over and 'do it right'.

I understand the first person's relief; it's how I felt when I passed the role onto them.  I appreciated the new treasurer's enthusiasm. We need that kind kind of energy in our group; we're stronger for it.
Perfection

Our new treasurer confessed so some anxiety about performing the service perfectly. Perfection is such a fickle thing. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. And the ideal of perfect has changed so much over the years.

A hundred years ago, the word Perfection simply meant completion of one's goals. "Progress not perfection" meant that you're never truly done. There's always another level to attain.

Humans can't be perfect, when we try we lose our humanity.

Expectations of perfection have accelerated dramatically in recent times. Social media perpetuates unrealistic body images and illusions that our celebrities and heroes are without flaws.  People use medical procedures to lose weight or look like ageless, living dolls.

The Truth is, you already *are* perfect.  You are Essence energy, you were perfect before you were born and that didn't change when you squeezed into a puling, puking and pooping little baby body.

As Essence (Spirit, Consciousness) you are infinite, joyous, and free. Your body is limited, moody, and restricted by time and space.  As Essence, you love your body and it's personality. It's your creation and your vehicle for this lifetime. Essence effortlessly manifests anything it thinks of, and goes with the flow of whatever shows up.

It's our body/personalities that try hard, struggle with not being Rembrandt or Einstein.

Effort destroys our creativity. Perfectionism stops us in our tracks. Most underachievers are actually talented perfectionists. We never get good unless we start imperfectly.

When you shift your perspective to yourself as Essence, all this changes. You love and appreciate everything you produce; intelligible scribbles or fingerpainting, it's all good.

From this perspective you find creative energy flows. Art is the language of Consciousness. You feel inspired to write, sing, paint, dance, cook, garden, run... You are Consciousness expressing YourSelf through form.

It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you show up and do it. That's what we're here for, to manifest in the physical.

So if you want to feel better and enjoy life more, step up from seeing things as your body personality to seeing things as Consciousness. That may mean bringing your focus into the 'seat of the soul' or the center of your head (where the pineal gland resides). That may be dropping down to your heart and taking a step back into the area of Unified Consciousness.  It may be an easy shift of focus, where you are experiencing things from a bigger awareness.

Play with this for the next 7 days and see what happens!
